This is the first overall view of the new pond, roughly in an unbalanced horsehoe shape with a peninsula in the middle. The dirt pile is what I worked on removing the rest of the day, using the loader. Amy & Doug want to build a gazebo on the peninsula; the connection is narrow enough for a bridge, which might be a future project.

So, what are we doing with the dirt? We have fixed the flooding on at least an acre and a half of my property so far. This area used to be a lot lower. Sharp-eyed viewers may be able to see how the fence goes downhill; that was the previous elevation change. It's now level.

This area used to be a virtual swamp.

Tomorrow, they're leaving the loader for me to bucket the rest of the dirt pile. Monday, they start to work on my pond. The area around my pond is still so wet that we aren't going to try to move the dirt right now. We're going to dig it out and stockpile it until things dry out somewhat. I did well enough with the loader today that the contractor is going to drop it off for me on a couple of different weekends after the area dries out. We'll also be using the little TC18 quite lot. The small loader is perfect for getting dirt into tiny areas between trees, and I have a lot of box blading to do now that the dozer has spread everything.

Looks nice. Do you drive back and forth every day or do you have a place to stay. That's a big project and looks like you got it under control...

Do you drive back and forth every day or do you have a place to stay

I have a place to stay. My daughter and her family live on the property next to mine; that's their blue house in the background. I could sleep on the pullout sofa. However, I moved my old Pace Arrow out to their place and parked it next to their garage. Technically, it's my "construction trailer". However, if I happen to fall asleep out there when I doing paperwork, well, accidents happen...

...The old Pace Arrow is a 1988 model, purchased used about 9 years ago. It's just 28 feet, no slideouts, 454 Chevy, and is now well used. Mechanically, it's good, and most of the "house" functions work well (the furnace is broken, but that's not much of a problem here). However, the fiberglass body is delaminating, so it doesn't have much value. We used the generator for over 14 days straight during the hurricanes and damaged something in the shore power converter unit; that in turn melted many 12V wires and created a real mess. I had enough of it repaired (at more cost than I care to remember) to start and run, and handle the essential 12V functions. Unfortunately, a few things are not working, such as the driver's power window, the indicators for the holding tanks, the map lights for driver and passenger, and a few other minor things.

The end result it that once my projects are complete and our house is constructed, the old Pace Arrow will take it's last trip, either to a dealer who will take it as a trade-in then junk it, or to one of a couple of local folks who want to use it at their hunting camp.

Your project is really coming along OkeeDon. I really like the idea of the peninsula with the gazebo. Think they'll do it? Hope that it all becomes a reality as it would be a perfect place to just relax after all your hard efforts to make the land usable. Great photos too.
