OK I went and saw the new LMM ? duramax today. I took it on a short test drive due to time limitations I will probably go look at it again when I get back to town saturday but I dont see me buying one. They are nice trucks and when I test drive it next time I will take it out on the interstate and see how it rides. My first impression of it was that it was not that much more comfortable to ride in than my 06 is. It might be quieter but not enough to notice. Of course I am partially deaf so it might be a lot quieter. I liked the seats better and I liked the arm rests. I was not as impressed with the gauge situation that much I like mine better. Power wise I did not see that big a difference but I did not expect to. One poster said it would blow the LBZ ( I thought that was the engine in my 06) out of the water. I did not tell that much difference but the specs are almost identical. The difference from the webiste I read said they improved the life of the turbine but it is still the same turbine. They multi fire the injectors each stroke to help with the noise and emissions. It has a larger cooling system for the egr. I did not see anything that will make a huge difference as far as power goes.

The things that I liked about it were it has some options finally that it should have had a long time ago. You can get the home link for your garage door opener without having to have a moon roof. I am at a loss why they would tie those two together. It has built in navigation available, You can get a backup alarm if something is behind you it will tell you about it. You can get a built in brake controller. I find it amazing that the backup alarm, and the built in brake controller are something that ford has had for years and they are finally making it available on the suburban. I also found it interesting that the square tubing frame only goes back to the rear axle then they have channel welded to the frame the extends the rest of the way to the bumper. Does anyone have any idea why they would do that ?. It does have a bigger towing capacity than the earlier duramaxes. It is a nice truck but I have an 2006 and it was not enough of a change to make me trade mine in yet.

Hopefully your dealer has one. I talked with a co-worker in NW PA today and he said the dealer in Warren, PA has not been able to order one yet. I hear that it blows the LBZ out of the water.

As for listing the exhaust as being changed I just assumed that the DPF would be included in the exhaust since that is where it is located. I was actually just being to lazy to write out Diesel Particulate Filter and did not want to assume that everbody knew what DPF stood for.

Do you know how long it takes to change the fuel filter on the 06 duramax I just had mine serviced and I was kind of suprised at the labor charge for that. They charged me 65.00 labor just to change the fuel filter. From what I remember it is pretty easy to get to. I also wonder where my dealer buys there oil. I asked them about switching to a synthetic and they told me they had mobil synthetic. It was not mobile 1 but was the same thing for diesel engines. I was unpleasantly suprised when I got the bill and it was 145.00 for the oil alone.

they have had "multi fire" as you call it injectors since 01 its called "pilot injection" this helps control where the combustion takes place in the cylinder. the 4 and 6 cyld durimax units have injectors that are capable of up to 5 events per cycle.
the frame is made that way so that if you get hit hard in the rear the frame can be sectioned out and replaced, im not sure about 1 tons but they have been doing that since 99 when hydroformed frames came out. my wife had a 99 and got hit in the rear on the highway and they replaced that section of frame.
home link is cool as long as you have a newer garage door, navigation is awsome i had it first on my denali and now on my 07 "new body" sierra.

Hi workin. You know where I bought my truck that is where I took it back for servicing today. I made my apointment and told them I had to have it out by 3pm because I had to fly to houston. The said no problem. At 3 pm they were fixing to put it on the oil change lift.
When I asked about synthetic oil they told me they had the mobil oil what they meant was they knew where to go get it. I raised a real fit about it not being ready so they discounted the oil and some of the labor. I had them change the oil and filter, the fuel filter and rotate the tires. They charged me 251.00 after discounting some stuff. Does that sound about right ? The initial bill had the oil at 145.00 by itself I thought the duramax takes about ten courts that is 14.50 a quart for oil. Jackie cooper only charges 7.95 a court for mobile 1. I cannot believe the chevrolet dealer was going to charge twice as much as the Porsche dealer. Considering i bought a 2005 duramax and then a 2006 duramax and was in today looking at a 2007 with a sticker price of 51,000 they are going to have to get their service department in better shape or I will start buying in arkansas.



On the other hand my wife had a good day I looked at a new Porsche Carrera Cabriolet while I was waiting for my truck. I took it for a test drive and did not like it. She could not believe that I did not like it. I think I will just wait another year and then trade my boxster in for another boxster only get a Boxster S this time. The chevrolet dealer was trying to convince me that the Corvette was a better handling vehicle than the Porsche. I might drive one next time I have the time but I really dont see me liking it as much.

problem with the prices at the dealer is the corpertae run dealerships. they are told how much profit to make on everything. warranty pays .9 of of an hour to change your fuel filter (not the special policy time) so we usually take warranty time x 1.5 to get customer pay times. but for a light duty d-max we only charge 1.0 for the filter which is less than .9 x 1.5. oil change is a set price labor is .4. so if the rate is 100.00 per hour a fuel filter will cost 100.00 in labor and a oil change will cost 40.00. tire rotation on single rear wheel is .5 and duel .8.
personally i think for service items all dealers should have a highly trained hourly emplyee to do the work because that is where most of the shop work comes from. and this is universal for all makes ford gm dodge whatever but the dealers always put some new kid on the rack with no tools and little training then discount the service. 12 years ago when i worked the rack i got paid .8 for any oil change but we did a complete check on everything while it was in the air. tires brakes fluid leaks ...ect. we all have jiffy lube to thank for the cheep oil changes just remember that guy is trying to beat the clock and when your in competion $ wise with wallmart and jiffylube you have to drop your price. so now days your lucky if you get all the zerks greesed while its in the air and anything checked but the oil level. i have seen trucks w/ 50k miles on them and no fluid in the transfer case due to cheep oil changes.
ok with all that said next time try the pontiac/gmc store in BA i know the guys there and they are family owned and have always done a great job. i cant recomend my dealership for maintenance sorry to say.

i think everyone should take a personal interest in checking their car/truck anytime it is taken in for anything. befor you leave the lot make sure all your fluids are full, no paw marks on your ride or in your ride, and check to make sure what you paid for was done. if this means looking under it to see if it has been greesed then do it. my dealer is charging 10.00 a bottle for gm wiper solvent, ya its a buck a wallmart. 1 mini fuse 4.00 pack of 10 at wallmart 2.99. its corperate run dealerships that are killing the big 3 and our pocket books

ohh ya ford is cooking concrete, gm did the same thing till they put a ventury in the dpf to cool it down

I changed my own oil from dino to synthetic Rotella with a new filter for about $55 bucks. Messy, but I like keepin the C-notes in my wallet. GMC got enough cash out of me when I bought my '07 3500.

As far as the LMM is concerned, I'd look real hard for an '07 LBZ "classic". You'll get 0% financing, tons of incentives and more off the sticker than a new LMM. The new trucks are bound to have troubles. A DPF is pretty much a DPF, so GM could have troubles with them, just like Ford. i think the classic is better looking and the interior is way better looking.

I actually wanted a new 6.4L Ford 450 4x4, but GMC made me an offer I couldn't refuse. No regrets, here. I got a simpler, less expensive diesel with all the goodies for less $$ and less of the guinea pig feeling.
