Most common new tractor in North America?

From reading many threads on TBN and other sites, it seems that Kubota is the most common new tractor being sold in North America.

Back before this was TBN, it was a Kubota tractor site...

Wouldn't expect Kubota to be THE most popular since they don't do much in the production ag equipment sector, but unless your knickers are in a real knot about orange tractors, it doesn't take much to figure out they are a good company that will be around for a long time.

In 2005 Kubota issued a press release announcing a million "units" sold in the US. A few months ago, another press release, this time announcing 1.5 million. 500,000 over 6 years is an average of 83,000/year. Kubota's SEC filings indicate 2011 US sales were up by 8.6% vs. 2010 (although I don't know how much of that was exchange rate differences).

If you compare Kubota to Deere and others, they are a seriously large operation:

Gotta' agree with 5030. Despite their outrageous prices JDs have got to be the most popular machine in this neck of the woods. From riders to full sized ag machines. In my little neighborhood there are 4 JDs and 1 Massey(mine).
You'll see the occassional NH and Case and the older International now and again.

In my area ( lots of professionals Drs, PHDs, specialists...) Kubota seems to have the largest market share with CUTs. The Farms are another issue. Lots of JD, Cases and older stuff like Oliver. Most of the old Dairy farms in New England are gone now. Thy brand of tractor in the yard depends largely on the closest dealer in the area unless you are like the local Kubota dealer that uses manipulation and scare tactics to keep his market share against other dealers. He gets top dollar for everything.
I think JD has the largest share in the USA over all...

Not a chance.

Maybe in the sub cut market but overall sales it's JD hands sown. and total units sold, again JD and by a wide margin.

I could be wrong but I believe it would be JD, then Ford NH, then Kubota, the IH.

This site might represent 1/10th of the total owners out there.

I agree with this also, as an OVERALL sales comparison.

Kubota doesnt make any big tractors, combines, planters, etc. And certainly not nearly as much construction equipment such as deere, and others. Like large backhoes, excavators, etc.

The other companies are MUCH more diverse.

THAT said, I would say in the CUT and smaller market (~sub 50HP) range, kubota probably sells just as much as anyone, and maybe more than deere in the smallish range.

But I have no facts to back this up. Just the experience in my area, where the average farmer is running 150HP+ tractors, and kubota doesnt make anything compariable, IF/WHEN that farmer wants a smaller tractor for whatever, they stick to whatever they use for their big tractors.

Don't know about the latest models, but the Mahindra's used to be based on old IH designs. They were a licensee of IH back in the day and I seem to remember some of the IH tooling ended up in India when Big Red went belly up in '85. Always thought Mahindra tractors were set up and "looked like" utility tractors from the '60's and '70's... not a bad thing, by the way.

They do (Kia) have one fantastic warranty. I just can't bring myself to buy one, or even look at one. Something decidedly un American about Kia in my opinion.....

JD is a very wide line company whereas Kubota isn't. Kubota's thrust up until 4 years ago was the less than 70 horsepower class, with my venerable M9 being their big powered tractor at 82 PTO. I think the starter motor on my friend's Case Magnum makes 82 horsepower...........

It's just been recently that Kubota has made it's entrance into the mid power arena but they are light years away (and maybe never) from the big power ag tractors that JD, IH, Ford, Cat and Case sell everyday and that's where the profit is.

Well, at one time I said I would never buy a German or Japanese car/truck or tractor and now we own three Kubotas, two Toyotas and one GMC. I also owned two VW Beetles, Rabbit and GTI that were great vehicles.

I also don't ever see Kubota successfully competing in the big Ag tractors.
