4 cords = 12 face cords

Unless the pieces were 24 inches long then 4 cords = 8 facecords. Now if the pieces were 48 inches long... :)

I have a Valley Comfort" wood furnace, It is just like any other Furnace it only opens the damper when the thermostat calls for it and the fan only comes on when the fire box gives off enough heat. I have a 2 ft fan blowing in the basement, the house is 2500 square ft, I live in the mountains, 2,000 ft level, this year has been long and we burnt a lot more than normal. 5 cords is normal, this year we will burn maybe 7. It snowed last night, about 3 inches.
I cut my own wood on crown land, FREE, 3 Cords at a time, within 20 miles. We like to burn Larch, or pine, this year we burnt fir. and will next year also, I keep three years supply, on hand. Next year I hope to have my shop finished, then I will need more.

26 inch x 30 inch cast iron in the basement burns 24/7 for 5 months fill it every 2-4 hours hours depending on setting .

OK filling it that much and that size i can see that amout of wood burned. You really ought to get a modern stove, i bet you could cut that wood in half.

Sure, but -30*C is a balmy winter day for you , and IIRC you burn a lot of softwoods.

This is true. For that climate and burning resin rich wood, the Blaze King is the ideal stove with a large firebox and the big catalyst system. The secondary air type stoves tend to run away with pine. You will probably cut your wood consumption by half at least. Of course the wood does have to be properly dried. Wet wood is a problem all of its own. I had 1 winter with marginal wood and it was miserable. Never again.

sounds like a full time job just feeding the stove lol

same size house and cast-iron stove here, similar climate and I only go through 3 cords of well seasonned hardwood (maple, ash, beech, yellow birch)

A face cord is a fictitious measure used to confuse and swindle consumers.

There is no definitive size / volume for a face cord.
