Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Moving Snow

Just thought I'd show a few pictures of me moving some snow at my shop this afternoon. These are 2 days after the storm and it was 40 degrees today- make it very wet. This snow was about 2 feet when it fell. These pictures were taken in NE Conn.

Showing final pile. I made about 6 piles this size or larger.
Had a lot of fun doing it. Later took a drive over to the farm with the tractor and plowed out about 1/4 mile of an access road. Road is not used in the winter, but didn't feel like getting out of seat. It got so warm in the cab, i had to turn AC on... go figure

good pics there Steve,looks like chains on all fours,that 'Bota must go wherever you tell it,nothing like chains.Thanks for the entertainment. I like the winter snow as much as any but this is a little bit like work-Lloyd from CT.

How do you like having the chains on the front? I have had some trouble getting up to my driveway/parking area, from down back where I keep my tractor, and have been thinking that perhaps chains on the front might be the ticket...

Have you run into any negatives with the chains on the front?

I use a John deere 710 backhoe or a JD 624 front end loader. Both machines use St. Pierre roller chains on the front only. Been using these types of machines for more years than I care to count. Chains in the front on 4 wh dr machines are "GREAT".. We never chain both axles nor do we chain rear only. You'll find a big difference pulling the rear chains off, leave the front on.

How did you mount your woods on the rear? I have a 3050 Kubota with a cab and the Kubota hoe rides too close to the window?

Had the chains for the front hanging in the barn for years. Never needed them. I was told if you didn't NEED them they would cause drive train binding due to too much traction.
I started bucketing snow monday morning and discovered I needed them. I got stuck working the hill into the woods (driving down hill - scoop snow - back-up hill to dump place - repeat) With a full bucket of snow, and pointing downhill, the rears just couldn't do it.
I kept sliding sideways. Got back to the barn, dusted off the front chains, put em on and that was all it took.

Half a mile of driveway and no problem. We even encountered about 4' snow depths and even with the tires burried, it kept going.

I was up in silve star, canada and got to see a lot of equipment used in snow removel (I was up there skiing). Two skid steers with blowers, one with a plow (bobcats), a wheel loader with a plow and the snow groomers of course. I love those machines...anyway. That's what I saw, I'm sure they had more.

Expect you can push just about anything you need to with those 4 sets of chains, and, looking at those snow piles, you probably need it! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif But just a suggestion that you be real respectful of your drivetrain while doing so. I learned that lesson many years ago from putting chains on all 4 wheels of a Jeep for snowplowing. Darn thing could about go through anything, but clutch, transmission, transfer case and all the rest sure took a beating. But when you're young and dumb like I was, you don't think of things like that! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
