I have used a number of backhoes over the years and each has had it's own preferred way of moving forward or backward while digging. The most impressive approach is on the newer JD industrial backhoes that provide a small lever on left side to move the machine forwards or backwards. Other hoes have readily moved by using the bucket to lift the back end and push/pull rotate into position. I now have a BX-23, and find that moving the machine is more difficult than most... I am tall enough that I can turn to the left while hoeing and reach down to the HST pedals and press them to go forward or backward- this would be fine, but the machine is wired to prevent this very thing and the engine cuts out. With the machine in drive, you have to lift the whole unit off the ground so the HST doesn't force tire skids. I'm actually contemplating a control like the big JDs have that actuates the pedal in either direction, and overriding whatever sensor is causing engine to shut off when you try to move when the seat is facing backwards. Has anyone else created a method that works on a 23?
