I have used a number of backhoes over the years and each has had it's own preferred way of moving forward or backward while digging. The most impressive approach is on the newer JD industrial backhoes that provide a small lever on left side to move the machine forwards or backwards. Other hoes have readily moved by using the bucket to lift the back end and push/pull rotate into position. I now have a BX-23, and find that moving the machine is more difficult than most... I am tall enough that I can turn to the left while hoeing and reach down to the HST pedals and press them to go forward or backward- this would be fine, but the machine is wired to prevent this very thing and the engine cuts out. With the machine in drive, you have to lift the whole unit off the ground so the HST doesn't force tire skids. I'm actually contemplating a control like the big JDs have that actuates the pedal in either direction, and overriding whatever sensor is causing engine to shut off when you try to move when the seat is facing backwards. Has anyone else created a method that works on a 23?

Yea, this topic has come up before on the Bx22. I also raise the outriggers, riase the FEL and learn over and push the HYD pedal. So yes, I do the same thing onb my BX22 with no safety things! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am sure if you due a search it will come up.

I am sure you can discoonect the safetly things (like in any piece of equ) but then the dealers will go nuts if you go in for service and they do not work.

And I am sure all the safety people will give their speal. Have to be politely correct now-a-days.

I do the same thing as GSXR1100 on my BX23 - you can move the tractor with the pedal even with the safety wiring on the BX23 - you just can't push it very far. Just a light touch on the pedal will move the tractor without activating the safety features. I do this sometimes when I am maneuvering the tractor backwards to hook up a 3pt implement too. I lever that would move the tractor front or back would be cool though. I wonder if something like that could be rigged up.

This is what I do as well except I have a low-tech helper in the form of a yard-long chunk of broom handle that I use to actuate the HST pedal while sitting in the seat facing rearward. Works great and I don't have to lean over.

When I am digging and need to move the tractor I raise the FEL, and the outriggers, put it in neutral, put the hoe in the ground and move the boom in our out to move the tractor front or backwards. Sometimes I even use the BH to move the backend from side to side. Tractor never barks. Put the fel and outriggers down, and keep digging. Usually never even turn around. It only wastes about 1 BH cycle when digging away.

LIFT your riggers up some, reach around lift fel ,push pedal slightly[i usually put the back wheels where the fronts was] lift front up,drop down riggers, you should be digging again in about 30 seconds. When im digging on a hill i have the brake set,i still do THE SAME THING with the brake set

I did the same thing with my former BX23 as the others mentionned. But... you should leave the brakes on and lift the rear tires with the backhoe. Don't ask me why I do that this way now (no harm done but a good fear). This is the easiest and fastest way to move the tractor when using the backhoe (IMHO).

I leave the outriggers in place and lift and move with the hoe. That way as soon as I drop back down I'm digging again.
