How do you determine the placement of the horizontal hole for the clevis pin that goes through the guide wheel mount so that the mower deck is balanced? I was going to use 18" steel rods with holes 1" from each end for 3" casters. Need to figure out where to drill the hole in the bar for the clevis pin. My deck is the RCK54-23BX.
Now I'm not sure if an 18" bar is long enough for general stability.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
You could also make it longer than 18". I think the ones that I have that swivel casters are less than 20" long and I don't feel tipping is an issue for my deck. Post some pics of your finished axles. Good luck.

I've got these two decks stored on the swiveling deck axles. The two of them take up less space than one deck laying flat.

I don't have the tools to make them so I bought them.

Oh, so somebody builds these for sale? Yeh good for them, there's definitely a market for these things I think, so long as the price is right.

I don't know if the price is right but they don't cost as much as the deck dolly or Larrys axles. I've bought 3 of them. I tried to make them but after pricing the steel rods for the axles ($20) and 4 of 5" swiveling caster wheels ($36), I gave up because I don't think I could have drilled the 3 holes in the rod without messing something up.

The first pair I bought 3 years ago was $95. I bought two more sets this year. One was $105 and the other was $125.

Around 100 bux seems quite reasonable to me.

Nice job GeneV and Imold. During off-season I kept my 60" deck in the building, vertical, fastened to the wall just to take up as little sq. footage as possible.
Starting 2 years ago, I now palletize the deck and linkages, cover with 6 mil plastic, then fasten a tarp, and store with the other outdoor attachments.
It has seemed to work, protected the deck and didn't get any mice or other critters up underneath. The pallet is on bricks, which sit on a gravel pad.

If i ever get enough floorspace for indoor storage, the mower deck dolly would be the way to go.
