Mowing decision

   / Mowing decision #11
NKR,

Good advice and choice about getting the rotary cutter. I use one for only about 5 acres now since the rest (about another 4-5) is lawn now. If you cut regularly and sharpen the blades a bit the finish is surprisingly nice. Yesterday I cut an area that was very wet with near 6 foot tall stuff....yep I got a lot of windrowing. But that goes away after a resting period and mowing the other direction.

I have an older 5' TSC brand in red originally. I think King Kutter is actually a bit better than mine. Mine started falling apart not long after I got it...the next year. I ended up welding all the seams continuously instead of "spot" welding every few inches like it came from the factory. I also added better locking bolts to hold the gearbox to the deck. I also changed the mounting position to get it closer to the back of the tractor. I then repainted it GREEN since that is the paint I had on hand (and it's the "best" color of course.

The final result has lasted several years and still looks great despite getting filthy, wet, and cuttting some stuff nearing 2" around. Amazing what better welding and god paint will do. Good luck.

Peter
