I do but on my other properties I use this style of self propelled 4X mower as much as possible

Nice. We have caprinos quadrupeds that clear a lot of brush and weeds for us. But we still have (get) to mow.

I have had several Gravelys over the years. The one I just got is the only one I have had that wasn't made in Dunbar W.V. by Studebaker . The engine dates to 94. One of the reasons I love Gravely stuff is it was invented and for many years built in the area of W.V. that my family roots run deep

What year was that super convertible?

Not sure if you were asking, but my Super was a 1972 model, that was rebuilt in 2001, with all the original manuals and bill of sale. It was an excellent machine - barely had to hit the starter and it was running.

I sold it for what I paid for it as I needed room and wasn't using it enough, and still have the sickle bar attachment - with new knives and guards too.

Mine is a 2000 model and I haven't noticed any of the issues you're describing. The chute will clog occasionally in heavy wet grass or when a stick gets lodged somewhere. I love the shear pins on both the shaft and the blades. My deck doesn't have to be on level ground to get it to line up. I lift it anywhere in the yard and drop it back down. I've never seen it get misaligned. Maybe it's broke in after 1000 hours? It had over 900 when I bought it 3 or 4 years ago. Keeping the screen clean in the hopper helps keep the grass flowing. I checks that the shear screws on the blades are tight when I sharpen the blades.

I sure wish I could justify a new one, is yours relatively new?

Kevin

Edit: Actually I bought the mower in 2013 so I've had it six years. It's nice to be able to look back at old posts to supplement my failing memory :)

More Walker mower quirks..... I just did a oil change on mine about 10 hours of use ago. ... mowing yesterday I heard a strange beeping.. it was the low oil beeper... I believe the cooling fins are stuffed with grass and the motor has been using oil because of it. It's virtually impossible to clean around the motor cooling fins and case...without completely removing the whole motor... yippie

This is my collection more than I actually need for my yard but whatever
Left to right
Cub Cadet string mower for mowing the electric fence around my garden
Craftsman vac/chipper/blower vacuum leaves chips up 1.5 in diameter brush
Grillo G85D walk behind tractor has tiller on now I have a 28inch deck
Troybuilt 42 inch riding mower was mainly bought to help out a neighbor
Gravely Professional 12 the Tractor and a snow blade were a gift from a friend I just got the 40 inch kidney deck this will be my main mower
Craftman 22 inch mower I bought it so I didn't have to change from tiller to mower deck on the Grillo When the Grillo was all I had

I was discussing the lawn equipment with my lovely wife Mainly about being given the Gravely. I said I really didn't need the rider or the self propelled mower, and I could get by with out the push string trimmer. Her response was , they are paid for, inside and don't eat anything. Don't sell anything. Then suggested we look at getting another shed come tax check time incase I find something else I wanted

My neighbors Ferris IS5100Z with a 33 hp CAT Diesel. I use it to cut a lot of his acreage, a 8 hour job. Since i get to use it to cut my own grass as well, i sold my Kubota F2690, which rode like a dump truck compared to this Ferris and neither has a suspension seat.

I really got interested in the front mounted Grasshopper because of another thread. I’m not eager to pay $8,000 + for a lawn mower but these look like they would really do a great job. I like the tilt deck.

I would have been more impressed if it had something besides a B&S engine.

I believe the vanguards are supposed to be pretty good engines.

When I bought my land in 2015, I bought a 2005 exmark metro 48" from the previous owner, since it was already here. It worked fine for a year, to mow the dam and then it wouldn't start, so I bought a 24 inch husquvarna 4wd walk behind and parked the exmark, intending to get to it. I had it under a tarp for two years and when I pulled the tarp back last year to take it to the shop, the deck had rusted thru. I don't know how it looked from underneath before I parked it but it looked like swiss cheese now. It ended up being scrapped. and I made do with the little self propelled walk behind until this year when I bought a rotary cutter. 7 foot Brushhog. Titan 1507. First use and initial review. - YouTube
I am sure that we will get a riding mower to use near the house, once we get it built, but for now, we are making do.

I think Youæ±*e right. I just don稚 have experience with Vanguard.

Every mower I致e had except one was B&S and I used them hard.

.

I do not have first hand experience since I have a Kawasaki (great engine) but I believe the Briggs Vanguard is a good engine as has been mantioned. I am curious what others here say.

I do, and I'm nice as well since i do his 8 hour grass cutting for free. My own grass takes 1 hour, half the time it ised to take me with my Kubota F2690

I have a B&S 17.5 HP on my MTD from the early 2000’s, and it runs like a top!
