We had 6-7 inches of rain in two days, ending Friday morning. I went out to cut some wood yesterday with my 1460. It did fine in the flat areas, but struggled getting up some of the muddy hills. One hill it just started digging to China.

I guess it is not quite as invincible as I thought. Maybe I need to get an 1850 for times like these..... lol.

I have gotten my 1850 with duals on stuck in the mud. If you go in reverse, the tires load up almost instantly. When i have chains on, it gets stuck less. I can not remember if i have gotten it stuck with chains on but i am sure it could easily happen.

I have more aggressive tires too. It is just the sheer weight of the machine that does it in. I would have gotten it stuck for sure with the stock tires on it.

That is a lot of rain. Is the soil clay based? As I mentioned before, we have sand. Great drainage. No chance of getting it stuck here, ever.

Below the dirt is mostly red shale. It is like a really hard clay. It is hilly here, but like you said, it was a lot of rain.

I have been her 6 years, and it is the third time it has rained like that.

I have been pulled out twice now in September by my Neighbor. Once high centered on a hidden stump and unable to move. The second time was going through a ravine. Just got in and sunk in the mud. Once the pan makes contact with the ground you are pretty much screwed.

My neighbor brings down his dozer and in seconds I am out. And then he busts a trail for me on his way home.

He told me about a hand held battery powered winch that is rated at 2500lbs. Costs around 350. going to look into it...

hand held winch? I assume he means light enough to carry? Obviously, it needs to be secured to something stronger than you.

My electric winch is pretty heavy as is the large marine battery i use with it. I have carried it down into the woods when necessary but it was not fun. The gas winch is 35 lbs so not too bad.

That is true with pretty much any vehicle. I was trying to go up a muddy hill trail, and as soon as it started digging in, I just gave up and went back down. With the narrow tires it all would have happened much faster. Luckily I have a dozer in case I stick the PT.

It rained again all day today. I am really getting sick of it.

I found a good deal on a Ram 8000 lb winch, and welded on an adapter to the base plate . I can now connect it to the 2 in receiver on the PT, or up front. I use an extra battery with the winch. I have a pendent control, but am looking for a wireless remote control.

This one from HF goes on sale often, and is wireless remote control.

Has anybody used that synthetic rope on their winch , and what load did you pull with what size was the rope?

Carl,

I am suprised that you don't have one of those Mile Marker hydraulic winches to help you with all that stuff you get into. I am just helping you spend your money. The electric ones are much cheaper.

Mile Marker 75-50085C HI9000 Hydraulic Winch - Truck/Auto Parts

I saw in the link that the winch can be used underwater. Has anyone ever submerged a PT?

Is the PT T336 2-tom Winch worth buying from PT at $950.

For about the same price as the PT hyd winch, at $950, I believe I would rather have the Mile Marker 9000 lb of pulling power, at 1500 psi. As far as working underwater, like anything else that gets hot and cools down underwater, it might take in a little water unless really tight.

If you submerge the battery and/or charging system, you are obviously all done...... You can submerge the winch, though.

I am sure someone has drowned a PT somewhere.

I use the synthetic rope on my electric winch. It is as strong or stronger than cable. You do have to worry about abrasion though. But nice to have something that is safer than a heavy cable if they snap and also no strands to jab you.

What size synthetic rope, to replace my 3/8 in cable? What cost, if you know.

I have the PT winch for the 422/425. It works, but it does not have a neutral. You have to power it in and out. This is very awkward. I have to tie a string (I use paracord) to the aux PTO handle and pull on it with one hand while I pull on the winch cable with the other two hands. I recommend against it.

Bob,

You do know that they make a wireless remote for a hyd solenoid valve.

Could I use that to replace the aux PTO valve? This sounds like a lot of complication for a rare use. Do you have any idea of the cost?
