Very strange. The matted fur does not sound good but could that be from wintering? I have seen that here before,at least thats what I thought it was.

Anyway is there an electric fence near by that maybe electrocuting them somehow:confused:

Whoa! If you got an electic fence killing animals, I'd say you need to tweak it down a few notches. :)

Maybe that does sound dumb. But I think in the right situation it is possible, like a water puddle or moist area and a small animal making contact with some kind of current, they do not have hooves:confused: just a thought.

I don't think a bobcat would want to mess with a coon more than once.
Do you got any coon hunters around your place?,Coon hide ain't worth much anymores I don't think, but people still like to coon hunt,,maybe they are crossing your place at night going hunting and thats just where they end up at?
Wouldn't think rabbies would be doing this on your pasture on a regular basis,if you just find one,,but several in one spot.
ain't seen black helocopters flying around have you,,,thingy

I had the same thing happen this fall. Found three dead coons in three weeks. No signs of a struggle, they appeared healthy (except dead:D ). Talked around some and didn't come up with any ideas. Local farmers poison them, sometimes killing as many as 20 in the corn crib. But the farmers weren't poisoning at that time. They said even when they do use poison, they usually only make it a few feet and drop dead. Never did find out what got them. We have way too many coons on our land. They love the rock bluffs...

Sounds like they have a disease of some type, possibly something like parvovirus. If it was rabies you most likely would see them around your house and they would be getting in fights with your dogs. Handle with care, gloves and shovel and I would bury them deep.
