MX-5 first time

My deck has a bad case of the bumps and on one of the support beams underneath I got a hole threw it that looks like it's been shot with a 12 gauge. They just don't make steel like they used to.

The MX5 is a double decker design with a space in between that contains additional supports. The bottom deck is designed to take the beating while the top deck keeps looking good. It's 823 lbs of pure beef.

Hey they make those MX-5's in orange

If you bought one and spray painted it Kubota Orange I wouldn't tell /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I thought I heard that also in another discussion. Is the MX series consisidered a medium duty brush hog.It sounds and looks like a better hog than my Woods. After looking at mine in just 4 hours of use I think I should have gotten something a little beefier than my standard duty. But with the price I had to pay for it,it should be holding up better than it is.I could see if I was really beating on it,but I havn't.

I'm not sure about the LX, but the JD MX, CX, and HX cutters are designed and built at the John Deere Welland Works center - at least that's what their brochure says. I quote from their literature,

"John Deere is building the industry's only Double-Decker rotary cutters... Other manufacturers use mostly 3.5 mm of sheet metal in their decks. Some use even less... John Deere uses two steel plates for a combined total of up to 7 mm."

And, yes it is considered a medium duty cutter - the smallest heavy duty HX series cutter Deere makes is the 10-foot HX10 which requires 80hp minimum pto HP for a lift-type cutter.

Hi Ken,

John Deere also makes the 609 and 709 HD rotary cutters that are rated up to 4" stuff... excellent hefty units... but pricey...

The Woods 60 would be similar to JD LX series, and the Woods 600 series would be like the MX...
and of course the Woods 6000 would be like Deere's HX or 609 series... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ken...

sure like the idea of a double deck.Wish I new then what I know now.I'm not so proud that I couldn't be pulling something green behind me.Or else buy some orange paint.

You got ahead of me John, you're saying the Woods 600 has a double deck also.

I just visited the Woods website at http://www.woodsonline.com and under ag equipment, rotary cutters, single spindle they don't mention a double deck on either their medium or heavy duty line (including the 600 series).

Well I guess I answered that myself by going to Woodsonline. There med. duty has a 10 gauge deck verses my 11 gauge.Nothing I could see about a double deck. The blades on the med. duty are heat treated and a little thicker.I guess I shouldn't have listened to my dealer and gone with a med. duty cutter.I think my tractor could have handled it.

Well Ken I guess you got ahead of me on that one too.I guess I have to type a little faster.

which brochure are you quoting i'll have to check and see where it's made at.. The LX is suppose to have the same double deck design.. they generaly exempt crossover parts from vendors on cross over products like when they had scotts brands vs jd products etc.. But i'm going by visual and brochure guides of the lx the mx may be exclusive??
