MX-5 first time

I'm looking at a 15 page brochure entitled "New Rotary Cutters 5- to 20-foot cutting widths" at the top and on the right it says "MX, HX, and CX Series". It has a picture of the CX20 cutter on the front. If you're looking for a publication number the only number I see is DSAA9236 on the back.

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif No... I was trying to show the standard, medium, and heavy duty line-ups of both lines... I believe the "double layer deck" is unique to John Deere right now...

...remember this is new technology/design and it has to be time tested first... the main drawback I can see is puncturing the bottom thin skin with debris and then ripping it up to shreds... similar to the space shuttle wing area... (or water, moisture, debris getting up inside that chamber area... while those rotary blades are spinning at 170+ mph with woody tough 2"+ debris... lots of energy is being expended under that deck!)

Obviously, it's much harder to penetrate a solid 7mm sheet of steel versus a 3.5mm piece... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Lou,
Are you pushing down the trees and running them over with the MX-5 or pushing them aside? From the photo I didn't see much debris on the trail as I thought there would be if you just chewed them up. Also, how high do you have it set for?

I've got a new BB60 I've yet to put much use on, but looking at a very similar job as yours right now. I have it on an older Ford 1910. I found out this weekend I could push over pine trees large enough for me to get stuck on thier rootball when they fell! Took a little bucket manuevering to get off of it!
(BTW: I'm in Saratoga County)

I push the trees over with the FEL most are in the 3 inch and less range, poplars, maple and some oak and pine. I then drive over them. The cutter chews them up pretty good but a considerable amount of tree is left over and I have been moving them later by hand to a spot off the trail. I am building a "funnel" for the deer in view of a tree stand. A few times I knock down a larger tree and then back up and use the FEL to remove the root ball. I have the rear wheel set at the middle bolt setting and I cut with the front chain 2 inches above the ground. I am leaving stumps about 3 inches high.

IMO the standard duty BB60 is not made to be chewing up trees.It's only meant to handle up to 1" dia.Mine has not seen any heavy action and it looks like it's taken a beating already.If you want to start chewing up tree's you might want to upgrade to a med. duty hog.I wish now I had gotten a BB600.

I thought the LX-4 - 6 had double deck they don't there the same 3mm most all others have some have 3.5mm just in case anyone has a LX-4 - 6 cutter brochure it's a typo..
the mx up have the double deck design..
