Just pulled up this thread because I'd like to add Tilt eventually. I already have 3 remotes (which I may even add a diverter one day) and I already have a hydraulic top link(gosh I can't imagine going back to a manual top link.

Anyhow, nice job but what I really wanted to comment on was your shop. Looks cool and I like the steps going up to what appears a loft! Sweet idea. I hope to add one to mine maybe this year or next (it's being built and should be done it a few weeks.

No, it wasnt baileys, I'll PM you

I got the PM, but did not recieve any PM notice! I had three unread PMs, the oldest from last Feb.! How do I fix this - PM me so we don't fork with this thread. NVM - fixed it.

And getting back on the subject at hand:

Somebody please talk to me about these couplings (from LD's first post): Pioneer 4200-4 couplings

Are these "standard" ag couplers? "Standard" meaning that pretty much any Cat 0/Cat 1/Cat 2 3PH implement will fit those couplers? Is there a "Couplers 101" thread or article around here?

I took it on faith that the grappler seller for my grappler that the "skid steer flat faced couplers" were standard and that everything would fit. Can't speak for the rest of the world, but for my tractor, they will be.

Now I need to learn about the couplers at the other end of the tractor (i.e. remote rear couplers).

Thanks,

There are tons of different couplers. Discount hydraulic hose has a good pictorial on some.

I'll admit that I am not well versed in flat faced skid loader style couplers. So don't know what is common there. I do thin it's common to have one male, and one female on the tractor side, and one of each on implement side. Inline rear remotes that have all the females on the tractor.

Speaking of rears only, the standard ag size is 1/2 inch body. And ISO 5675 is the typical ag coupler design. Which is Parker/pioneer 4000 series for single way sleeve, and 4200 for two way sleeve.

There is also ISO 7241 in both series a and series b. Which are not interchangeable.

Iirc, ISO 7241 series a male plugs are interchangable with the ISO 5675 female bodies.

The advantage of flat face couplers is that they essentially don't leak.

I replaced all the couplers on my equipment with them.

From everything I read, yes flat face are a better coupler.

The drawbacks...

About twice the cost. Which adds up when I bought 8 pairs of couplings.

Compatibility. ISO 5675 is standard ag. So you have to change everything you have, and everything you buy in the future. And would make it difficult to borrow, or rent 3PH equipment unless you make up a set of adapters.

So you wanna go pick up a wheel disc on c-list that has hydraulic lift.....change couplers.

Wanna borrow the neighbors towable bushhog with hydraulic wheels.......need some adapters or change couplers.

Neighbor wants to borrow your rear angle blade with hydraulics in trade for you borrowing his bushhog.....need to swap couplers or make adapters.

In the end, I chose ISO 5675 just for simplicity. They have worked for years, and still work just fine. So I loose a few drops of fluid each time I uncouple.....keeps things nice and lubed and the couplers working nice.
