My buddy(dog) is passing away

So sorry to hear that. Dogs are always our best friends. Wish humans were as good as friends as our beloved pets.

We lost our Golden a few years ago to cancer. Still breaks my heart.

I shut my business down 14 years ago and the next day adopted ranger. I just lost him 6 weeks ago and now I feel another tear.......

His 5 year old brother Rufus still misses him.

All dogs go to heaven. It was so hard for me to end it but, he was just so tired.

May your buddy Sal once again run with the wind, unburdened by age and ailments. I would like to think that our 4 legged friends will be loyally waiting for us when we move on. I too would love to run with them as I once did.

:bawling:

Made me think of one of my favorite scenes in this movie

Micky
Rose
Lexi
Shadow
Ella
Clover

Their ashes are all in the garden in a special place.

I'd like to think that they (along with some others in due time) will all be waiting for my wife and I. Mr. Will Rogers put it best "If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went."

In Knoxville that's really saying something. I'll think of them the next time I'm passing through. ;)

I actually live in Greenback, Loudon county. About 30'ish miles from downtown Knoxville. On Tellico Lake for those who know the area.

Every dog I have ever lost I mourned over their passing.
I know your pain all too well.
You have my thoughts and prayers.

To the OP and others here who have lost their fur-friend(s), you have my sincerest condolences.

I've been there for the passing of all ours, it's not easy, and it does not get easier as the years go by.

My wife and I have an area at the bottom of our yard that is their final resting place and I pass it daily taking our two dogs for a walk and it is bitter sweet every time.

My cousin told of an Indian friend who's family has a custom of planting a fruit tree on the grave of every dog they bury. They feel that through nurturing the tree the spirit of the dog is still with them.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words. It's been 4 days since he was able to walk and he couldn't hold his head up any longer. His mind was still sharp, but body was slowly shutting down. My wife and i stayed with him for 3 days and nights comforting him.

Today, my wife and i took him into the vet to be euthanized. We stayed with him, talked and petted him as the Doc injected the anesthetic and he slipped away into peace. Thanked the doctor and told her how sorry i was to have her put our dog down. You could tell it was sad for her too.

Thanks again everyone.

About 2 weeks ago one of our neighbors posted a flyer around the area about a small dog of theirs that had gone missing. I watched for it without much hope because of the large coyote population around here. Well this morning, early as I was going down to the bottom of our driveway to get my wife's news paper, I saw something on a bare slope that didn't look right so I put the RTV into 4 wd and went over to find the carcass of a small dog that pretty well had to be their little dog. We have never been able to get along very well with these people so I hesitated on taking it to them or just burying it but decided that if it was mine I would want to know so I loaded it up and took it up to their house. They were very thankful to have closure finally.
Having pets, especially out in the country is always tough but they are worth all the heart ache at the end of their time.

They know when it's time, and do their best to try to make it easier.
When my last dog took her final trip to the vet I took her out to get into the truck but she wanted to go for one last walk. So we walked the 1/4 mile in front of my house one last time, then she was ready to go.
I got home that night and was digging her last resting place, and I was sure that I heard her barking off in the distance. It wasn't until the following spring that I realized I had buried her in the exact spot that a woodcock had nested, undisturbed, the previous summer. I can't think of a more fitting place for a dog who liked to hunt the way that she did.
