My Carryall Saga...

I called my local TSC and asked them if they had something in stock a month ago and they had no clue what I was even talking about. They are not the same store as when they first opened, that's for sure. At least around here.

It seems like they aren't keeping old farmers, mechanics, and professionals on staff anymore. Mostly youngsters and cheaper labor.

I get the stock numbers off of their Internet site and read it to them over the phone. That seems to work better for checking what is in stock.

I remember what it was now. It was a PTO shaft with a quick connect on both ends. Next time I'll know better to shop their online catalog first. I ended up buying it from Northern Tool, along with the pins I needed. I'm not a big fan of TSC's website search either.

I would go with 5/4 pressure treated decking material. Over that span on the carry all it would cut down on added weight and be plenty durable for use.

Figure that a 2x8 is more than twice the amount of lumber as a 5/4 x 6 decking. Plus at the big box home improvement stores the decking will cost less per foot than the 2x8.

I'll have to look into that...

Ever try to get some help at Home Depot or Lowes??? There are only a few workers who actually know what they are talking about...:confused2:

I have one of those and I can definitely tell ya if ya leave it in the sun for any length of time, the orange color fades out quickly. Not bad for the price if ya can live with the fade.

The tractor stays indoors when it is not being used. Even so, I could take the fade for $9...

Do you havea harbor freight near you? they have a plastic container of lynch pins cheap. with 20% coupon, its pretty cheap. I keep a box of them handy since I losee them every once awhile.

If you want, you can also get the 3/4 hitch pin from harbor freight to use instead of toplink pin. I have and used both, I seem to prefer th hitch pin due to large handles to grab with.

Hey CTF

I too was very interested in the carryall from TSC. I went to the local store where they had one. We tried numberous CAT 1 toplink pins and could not get one to fit (the toplink pin hole was too small). I decided not to buy the unit as I was concerned it might be defective so I am curious to see if the one you purchased has the correctly sized toplink pin hole. I don't know the width of a toplink pin off hand (I am sure someone one this site does) but you may want to measure to see if one will fit (or try one from another implement).

should be 7/8 i think

The holes I drilled for the lower hitch pins were 7/8", but the ones I drilled for the toplink pin were slightly smaller, 13/16" if I remember right. I believe the toplink pin is 3/4" in diameter.

lowes also has the lynch pins but TSC is much cheaper on hitch pins and lynchpins and bolts etc.

IF you are referring the lift arm pins size, then yes its 7/8. But the top link bar uses 3/4 on cat 1 tractors and the BX falls in that category even though its a limited cat 1.

So, I'm thinking of making the deck 48" wide since the tire width is about 42" and the loader bucket is 47". What do you think?

   / My Carryall Saga... #59
48 is a good, round number. You can buy three, 8 foot 2x12's, cut them in half and have all the lumber needed.

You have gotten good advice..mine is:

Lynch pins and top link pins are standard items in our TSC store.. also available from TSC on line... but suggest you obtain in person... diameter and length are important and best understood in person. The Harbor Freight pins will work IF they are the right size for you..... they are too small for my application.

Recommend use of lumber, not plywood which will come apart over time.

Build as stout as possible... you may not think you will be lifting heavy stuff, but you WILL be.

I put a trailer hitch receiver on my carry all... great for moving trailers around.
