My dog my tractor buddy was laid to rest today.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my best buddy, my Beagle named Barley, back in the spring and the wound is still fresh and I am looking through tear filled eyes as I type this.

Obviously, there are many who understand what you are going through, and in a way, I feel sorry for those who do not.

After over six months of mourning, my wife and I decided to take the leap and after a bunch of looking, found this amazing little rescue mutt which is quickly working her way into our hearts. We just picked her up on Sunday and she is proving to be real smart and is a quick learner.

Randall, I still water up sometimes when I drive the tractor (like I am right now as I type this) but just remember like I do; your friend is still there with you and always will be.

What you describe is how is was with Jack he was quite the character. Thanks

This is how I think of Jack and always will. I will think of him every time I get on the tractor or walk in the woods. I would have to battle with him to make him stay home when I went hunting back on the ridge. More than one time he would escape and track me down and change a hunt into a walk in the woods. He loved the tractor and the ATVs they were his and he would let me use them sometimes.

It's never easy losing family. And a dog has all the grand qualities most humans do not show towards each other. I'm sorry Randall. You are lucky to have had him, and he was lucky to have you.

I am so sorry Randall, your photo brings back so many memories of Max, my Jack. We have buried a couple but Max was special. I have been brought to tears more for dogs that have had to leave me than anything else in my adult life. My advice, go get yourself another tractor buddy soon.

I remember a quote, though not sure where it's from, and it's what I'll try to hold on to when my girl leaves me...

I called my Jack Russel "Snipper" because when she was young my ex wife and I would play a game of chase and she would always be faster than me and playfully snipping at my heels. Her coloring was really similar to your ''Jack".

I don't care what some people think of their dogs, they are not just property or just a pet. I got along with her better than I do with most people.

Sorry for your loss, losing a loved pet seems to cut more than losing a loved one. Give it time ans write down a few notes on what you treasured most about him,then stick it and a nice picture in your bible. All of my very best friends have always been dogs,and if I could give a part of me to have them forever, I would.

Dogs serve as a diversion from the daily detritus of life. We look upon their frolic and joy and perhaps live through them vicariously in this regard. It is why when their beloved companionship is over , why we are hit so hard as if a part of our own life is over. Take heed of not only their memory, but of the example they give as to what at least some part of our own lives can be. My sympathies to you in your time of grief.
