What did you mean by a mobile gantry crane? Like a crane with steel wheels that i could roll around the shop? thats not a bad idea but I am leary of trying to lift a couple thousand lbs like that. I suppose i can just use the tractor(when i get a big enough one)

I would appreciate any links that you have. General steel def suprised me but I guess I should have expected it.

Thanks again for all the help.

That's exactly what a mobile gantry crane is. Try Global Industrial at: SearchResult - GlobalIndustrial.com

and: Global offers a wide variety of Gantry Cranes, Steel Gantry Cranes, Aluminum Gantry Cranes, Gantry Crane and Outdoor, Adjustable Gantry Cranes.

and: Hoists & Cranes > Gantry Cranes - GlobalIndustrial.com

They have them all the way up to 8,000 pounds, so getting one that will lift 2,000 pounds is no big deal, and will be a heck of a lot cheaper than a bridge crane; but not as cool. Also a bridge crane is going to require more foundation and structural engineering, which adds to the cost.

Structural Engineering is no a big problem for me. I am going to have a civil engineering degree in about eight more weeks :D

I think that I am coming to the realization that Maybe I can't do this all in one shot.

I have a ton of links for steel buildings and pole barns.

DONE!

Does anybody have anything that is somewhat unique to their building/seen in a building that has helped out? I'm not sure what I am looking for but maybe something like overhead extension cords, overhead air hoses, or maybe even just a rack that has a shop towels dispenser. I always love things that make my life easier!

Well I haven't seen one of these in someone elses shop.

Overhead air/elect hose/hoses is a very good idea, I have one of each.

AH HA, I made mine for steel, does this count here for a rack and it's really full now
:)

Yes they are "A" frame types but preform a little different functions...

Having a full rack of steel sure makes the projects alot easier.

Yes it does and cost lost of $$, mine was easy, all 4 footers and it's on a rolling frame
I hate rusty steel, we spend $20 worth of grinding to get rid of rust

I didn't imagine you would want that heavy *** thing rolling around! Although I was thinking of having a rack against a wall somewhere for steel and maybe wood just to keep things organized.

Any good ideas on how to organize misc stuff? I was thinking the box shelves that are in the hardware store for nuts/bolts/washers/fasteners but I didn't come up with anything for bulky stuff yet.

I def like the overhead air and electric though!

RedNeck,
You may want to call a couple of the steel building places. Let them know you are interested in packages that someone else ordered and then cancelled. You can get a pretty nice discount on them, plus shipping is free since that was the downpayment that the previous orderer had to pay. If you let them know you are interested, they will annoy you by calling anytime they have a cancellation, but it could save you some cash.

If you are thinking of a one story and not using the attic space they have skylight kits. You pretty much cut a hole in the roof, which requires flashing around it, and a hole in the cieling. The two holes are connected by a mirrored cylinder that magnifies the light coming through. A few of those would go a long way towards adding some light.
