My Industrial Cabin Build

I know what you mean about getting permits. I took my drawings to the building dept. to get my permit. Code official looks at the drawings and survey and asks if I have wetlands on my property. I told him there was a pond that had multiple property owner's borders running through it.
Code Official: "Oh, you have wetlands then. You need to have the property delineated. I am not allowed to issue permits on property that doesn't show the wetlands delineated".

Me: "Crap. I wanted to start clearing and break ground."

Code Official hands me back all my plans and surveys and as I am walking out the door, says: "See you next year!".
Damned if it didn't take a year and $10,000 (in 1990 dollars) in costs for more detailed surveys and a wetlands specialist to mark the property and for a state DEP inspector to come out to the property and state the obvious: "You're OK as long as you build your house up on the hill". Well, DUH!!

Friend took two storage trailers and did a truss roof between them, came out slick. Something to think about for extra storage space.

Someone tried that here years ago, county put a nice red stop work order on it, now there is a legitimate building there. If you don’t have permits, you can do that.

You could do this and it should require no permits.

When I was following all the auctions looking for an excavator, these things were popping up at a lot of them. The 20 ft ones went for $1000 a lot of times.

it is interesting.l. when we started I was going to do a large metal building first. because agricultural, didn't need permit....they encouraged you to fill out an agricultural form but there was no requirement. they are pushing more and more so we shall see how they act.

Oof! No, a single pond does not mean you have actual wetlands. I mean, often it does, but no certainty. Sheesh.

When i built here in Michigan in 2014, i had to get township wetlands board approval as well. The main guy was just about to head out of town on a long vacation when i wanted my permit. So we had a brief phone call:
“Are you building at least 500 feet away from the nearby wetlands?”
“Yes, more like 700-800 feet” (i had no idea the “official” distance)
“Ok great I’ll sign off, then”.
“Thanks!”

Who is going to put a house foundation in wetlands?!? Of course we built up on the hill also.

For the roof, I will be using either steel trusses or making wooden ones and the roof will be similar to the first picture. If it was on the other side of the farm I might do a Quanset thing between them but I don’t think I can make that work next to the house. I will finish the back wall and put a door on the front. I think I can make it look pretty good
