My little girl Minnie is gone.

I had to have her euthanized this afternoon due to old age and health problems and have just returned from the funeral parlor who will cremate her. She could no longer stand and was even having trouble getting herself up straight from laying on her side. It was time to let her go. I lost my boy Mickey in April of 2012 and now Minnie.

Know how you feel and are close to you! Our little girl Tasha a husky cross that we rescued when she was 11months is now going on 14 yrs and has trouble getting up and doing stairs. We don't know how long we have, but like you when her quality of life won't be there we'll have to let her spirit free. Although we've done this in the past it doesn't get easier and am not looking forward to it.

As far as getting another dog....do it for sure!

I still have a soft spot in my heart for my first bird dog and to be honest none have lived up to her standards since.

But all dogs bring joy and it does help ease the pain.

I currently have two 11 year old GSP's that are decent hunting dogs. They have always lived outside except for extreme hot or cold. The house dog is a mutt, pretty much, but mainly blue healer. Smartest dang dog I've ever seen. I think I could teach him to bird hunt! It's like you can carry on a conversation with him.

It goes both ways... and it's not just dogs. Wives too, but with dogs I feel it is closer to 50/50. :laughing:

I have dealt with this both ways. Ie; waited for awhile to bring in a new friend and gone out the very same day and brought one home. Either way is the same. Your new friend will never be the same. Period.

Your new friend will take some time to get used to just as your old ones did. Your new friend will surpirse you with their own particular quirks, like's, dislikes, etc., etc. but it will never be the same.

Just keep in mind that your new friend wants to win your heart. You have to accept each other's good and bad. The day will come to pass that your new friend will also suffer the malidies of old age and will perhaps need to be laid to rest. That is how it is. That is what pet owners have to accept. Do not despair, there are plenty of good dogs out there waiting for "their" new friend to come and rescue them.
