I'm sure sorry to hear that Mace - What a beautiful pair of German Shepherds! I can sympathize with you having had brother & sister Labradors - Sandy & Cole. Lost one to disease at 10 years old and other as your Minnie, old age. Some may say they're just dogs, but they are far more than that.

Do you think you might ever get another dog? After my 2nd Golden Retriever died over 10 years ago, I have not replaced them as of yet. Mostly because of very expensive vet bills, partly because of the hair mess. But I do miss the unconditional love. If I got a dog now, it should be a Heinz 57, hoping for low maintenance and low vet bills. I couldn't afford the vet care (if something expensive happened) at the moment, so it would be irresponsible of me to get a dog now.

Thank you everyone. Your condolences do help with the grief.

Surprisingly I feel much better today but I still tear up thinking about her of course. I was a right mess yesterday. I know it was her time to go and I definitely did the right thing for her. She had just turned 14 a week ago so she was a very old puppy.

14 years is a good long life for a large dog. I would bet that her long life was a testament to your love and care.
