My little Golden buddy passed away Fri Night

/ My little Golden buddy passed away Fri Night #11
Kyle,
My wife and I send our condolences for your loss.

last year we rescued our special needs puppy Woody. I can remember how we felt during his heart surgery wondering if he was going to make it. Every night I wrap him up in a down comforter before I turn in (he can't handle the cold very well). I look in his eyes and kiss him because we know that due to his heart and several other serious problems he most likely will not live to be very old.

For many people like yourself our animals are family members not just pets. We don't have children (human ones that is). So for us loosing one of our dogs would be like loosing a child. It's going to happen some day and we are not going to take it well.

Take care

My sympathy to you also Kyle. I know exactly how you feel. We lost our cocker in September after over 16 years. We got her as a pup when our kids were still at home. She was like our last child after they grew up and left home. Made her a little grave site under a big pecan tree, outlined it with edging stones, and found a small statue of a cocker at a landscaping store to place on it. Helps to go out, rub the statue, and talk to her. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thank you all for all the heartfelt replies.

Austey was truly like a son since I have no children(yet).

Thanks again.

Our condolences Kyle.

One of the silliest explanations I've heard about our relationships with our pets is that we give them human characteristics.

Anyone who's had a meaningful relationship with a pet knows it's the other way around.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. We feel as as others do, they are family. Maybe in time, opening your heart to another can help the healing.

Kyle,

Sorry to hear about your loss. It pains me to even think about the day we lose our Yorkie, Bailey. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I know this has been posted before, but it doesn't hurt to post it again. This is a wonderful poem that every pet owner can relate too.

<font color="blue"> RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven
is a place called "Rainbow Bridge".
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to "Rainbow Bridge".

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine,
and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them
in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content,
except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them,
who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together,
but the day comes
when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance.

His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet.
So long gone from your life
but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross "Rainbow Bridge" together……

That's sad. And I know it hurts. A few years ago we lost a mixed lab that we've had for years. I couldn't even tote him over to the hole, instead a friend came over and placed him in the hole I had dug.

Hang in there.

Oh Kyle, I'm so sorry!

People ask us why we have only goldens in our home, and I have trouble voicing the bond that links us to them. They're so much like children in some ways, so much like trusted friends in others. I guess the bottom line is that goldens are just so darned civil! The head in the lap. The paw on the shoulder. The look of absolute loving trust.

Our thoughts are with you.
