After reading through this long thread and realizing that this opinion probably won't be to popular with the majority of the posters, I read where some felt that the OP should maybe carry some ice cream or maybe some beer down to the fire station to maybe speed them up on doing their job, that's the part of this whole thread that surprises me. Why should anyone have to do anything special just to get them to come out and do their job? Charlie.

Very interesting, out in West there are several big get together bonfires like Burning Man (massive party in place to see about anything you want. Carnival type place for BIG kids and the free fun crowd.)

or Texas A&M Aggie fires (kids build log towers and burn them.)

A friend of mine is one of the guys who puts on Burning Man every year. Rather surreal looking down and seeing his white flatbed in the opening of the video. LOL

Oh, he also had the 6x6 Army truck there this year too.

Not so much to do with someone doing their job as it is to do with building a community relationship.

I have a relationship with my VFD, and I expect that they trust me when I call stuff in.

This thread is bigger than his pile. I'm detecting a pattern as to what garners the most attention around here.

:) I think Bill is smiling about this....:)

Depends. How close to the tower is the nearest Aggie?

:) I'll bet a lot of folks don't remember that bonfire. Didn't some Aggies get killed?

They did. In 1999 eleven were killed.

There were a couple other non-fatal stack integrity issues.

We have bonfires here frequently, usually in the fall. No permits needed in our township. And folks burn old furniture, construction debris, plastic and tires are not burned. I've been to some big bonfires, sometimes 50+ folks there, and most keep hoses ready. When the nearest house is a 1/2 mile away, and everything is generally wet by many folks standards, the fire risks aren't that much. If they were, I'd guess we would need permits.

They died before the bonfire was lit. The stack of logs collapsed while under construction.

Entitlement philosophy spinoff?! Twisted thinking goes something like this: reward those who by actually doing their job will remember the reward and come to your rescue, validate your burn permit, fill in blank________, BEFORE the other guy, possibly in line ahead of you, so you can get yours, FIRST. I do for you, so you will do for me ahead of everybody else, why? 'cause I'M important.:confused3:

I tried that the right after I moved into this place, but didn't bother with a bribe. Just wanted to meet the crew, make sure they knew how to get to my property, and give them the code to my gate. A year later it was a whole different crew, they didn't remember me, and they didn't even have the gate code any longer. Now at the start of each fire season I just call and make sure that they have the code.:2cents:
