I was moving a dead tree that fell when I noticed another one coming right at me. I managed to move back enough that it missed me. Didn't damage the tractor either.

You definitely barley dodged disaster with that one. My last attempt with a dead tree involved about a 8” limb hitting the trackhoe roof. The picture really doesn’t accurately display the hit it took. The top of the roof is caved in that you really can’t see in the picture. I’d no doubt be dead without the roof being there. I was attempting to push over a large dead tree. I was being gentle with no sudden movements and I didn’t think it was snagged in anything else but the entire top broke out. It was like 18” diameter where it broke 30’ or so up. The main trunk went behind the hoe and a pretty big limb hit it.

I was moving a tree that was on the ground. I don't know if it was vibration or what that made the other one fall.

Glad your angle was beside you...whew.

This is the exact reason I got the FOPS/ROPS on my tractor (It does come standard but was a reason I went this route among others). So many hazards working in the woods. I am very happy you are unharmed!

I'm guessing you threw them drawers away.
No, it actually seemed to happen in slow motion. When I saw it coming directly at me, I was able to see it would miss me if I kept moving even though I was in low range and moving very slowly After it hit all the bark that came off seemed like a fast motion explosion.

It certainly was your lucky day. We always try to avert that type of incident yet there always seems to be "that one time".
Glad that you came out of it OK.

Wow omg! Yeh, that musta been exciting. Lucky how that thing fell on the tractor, too...just on top of loader arms.

When they start to fall it's in slow motion and you think "I have plenty of time to get out of the way." Once they reach midpoint though, everything starts to fast-forward.

Neighbor recounted the day he was incapacitated by a tree. He cut it down and it got hung up on another tree. Neighbor took his lunch break and when he walked back to finish the tree, it fell on him. He looked me right in the eye and said, "it was just waiting for me".

Holyyyyy!
Super lucky...

I was in the woods yesterday removing trees and stumps close to the edge of the trails. I was thinking of this situation constantly and I’m starting to consider adding some type of frame and roof to my ROPS

Glad no one got hurt, always afraid of these with so many leaners and snags here.

The D3 saved me... A very large Bay tree from an upper bank landed square on the ROPS corner support across the operator area..

All I was doing is rolling down the fire trail and WHAM!

Had it not been CAT dozer ROP I doubt I would be here...

Wow! 6 inches either way and something expensive would have been damaged. At least you noticed it before it hit. Thanks for sharing.
