Yep, that's definitely the preferred design. I also like the double swinging jaw type like posted above. Also centers the load.

The clamping surface digging into the tree trunk alone would be enough to twist the FEL frame.

The clamping surface is too large to dig into the trunk:

Then throw in the fact that your left rear tire is in the air and bingo, twisted FEL frame.

I didn't think of that because my loader front axle does not pivot.

I either don't understand you or I don't agree with your analysis. Lol. :confused3:

With the back axle on the ground, the trunk would have to bend sideways, in order for the angle of the loader arms to change enough to twist the frame.

A camera would be cool if you didn't break it. :)

Before my Brother had his sale I had access to a Bobcat T300. Man you could pull a lot of trees with that setup. Could pull trees way faster than the tractor with Grapple could pile them. :)

I think I mentioned this before. My Puller is second in it's value only to the Grapple. If maintaining a timbered property it's essential. :)

I agree completely that a skid steer, tree puller, and grapple is the ideal setup. Great visibility of what you are grabbing. I keep my eyes open for a good deal but, nothing so far.

My Brother paid $31K for his Bobcat CTL with 2K hours and a bucket...... Wayyyy beyond my budget for what tasks it could perform. But it was cool doing what tasks it was designed for!!!! :)

Lots of replies, thanks gents! If I were to go with the scissor type, would 2,100 lbs be sufficient to pull them out as I originally mentioned, for 3" - 4" saplings?

There are so many variables it's impossible to give a definitive answer. I don't recall the lift capacity of my previous Kubota L4400. It pulled hundreds of trees, some pretty large.

I looked, the Kubota L4400 has a 1,818 lift capacity (at the pins) so it sounds like the scissors would do the job well.

There ya go. Good job on researching. Sorry, I was too lazy. :)
