My new barn / shop build

My previous shop was all steel. It was a bit daunting in the beginning because none of us had built one before. In the end it was very simple.

Don't forget the floor drains.

Two of my friends are building new houses on concrete slabs. I moved in my house of that design last May. I think they are getting tired of me lecturing them about pre-planning in regards to the concrete.

One poured his floor Wednesday. Tuesday night in the dark they were out there laying Pex and finishing up so the concrete crew could pour at daylight the next morning. I'm certain specific things were forgotten. Doesn't matter now. Concrete pouring is an avalanche once it's started. No stopping.

I suggest adding some of the translucent light panels in the roofing system. They are the same size and shape as the metal roof panels and made for this application.
I walked into a pole barn that had them installed and the difference is night and day!
My 30x40 building is dark, especially on a cloudy winter day, and that's with windows and LED lighting.

Bad idea IMO, they will leak before the steel panels will, hail will punch a hole in them and someone on the roof could slip and go through them. We did the gable end and a 2' strip below the eave on our cow barn with translucent panels and that lets in a lot of light.

You have led lighting and it’s still to dark, then you need to redo the lights.

I agree. I have approximately 95 sq ft of glass in my shop. The outside light that enters isn't as bright as my LED lights.

Well, i decided to make it bigger. Had them add another 15x30 off the right side. Going to make it a mother-in-law unit. Concrete poured today for that. Starting to sheet the rest tomorrow. More pics to come! 20191202_123257.jpegIMG_8538.jpegIMG_8537.jpeg

The sheet metal is going up today. I really like the colors i chose. Red wall, charcoal wainscot, and black trim.20191204_122537.jpeg20191204_121757.jpeg

Keeping your mother-in-law out back......good move. Haha

It looks like a great color choice.
