Try it an hour without the Ac and I bet you will find out why its burning more fuel. Also the HTS is going to burn more. So between both of them. There is the extra fuel

Thats not the reason because My 3430 was a cab with air and it had hst transmission. My comparison is apples to apples.

I have the L 48 model and hog mow with a Woods 720 which is quite heavy in itself. I never thought to really get accurate fuel figures, but as I sit here,, thinking of the weight of my mower, the weight of the tractor, which is probably close to twice your new tractor,, and all other things considered,, mine too uses 1.6 gph when mowing,

I replaced a '05 model L2800 with a L3400 with the new emission standard engine and the difference in fuel consumption is drastic. I have not checked actual consumption rate, but the difference is very noticeable when comparing the same tasks.

Now that i have close to 100 hrs on my 3540 im seeing less fuel consumption, not an extreme reduction but enough to notice

How does the new Kubota compare ( fuel usage wise) to the old B3030 you used to have?

The L burns a lot more fuel than the 3030! The B series are very good on fuel.

MY Grand L4200GSTC with a 7 foot sickle mower uses slightly over a half gallon per hour.
With a 6 foot shredder will use slightly under a gallon an hour.
With a 7 foot rear finish mower it is slightly over a gallon per hour.
These are always with the A/C and music playing.
But all my cars will burn slightly under 3 gallons per hour when driving over 60 mph, and not mowing anything. KennyV.

New Emissions controls = burn 20-30% more fuel.

I'm not sure how burning more fuel is going to clean the environment.....maybe the way an all you can eat buffet is going to help you lose weight?

I found that setting the throttle at 15-1700 rpms, (doing bucket work) will use 1.2 to 1.4 gph. When I use the auto throttle which revs to 21-2500 rpm, I use 1.4 to1.7 gph. If I were to use a pto driven attachment at 2500 rpm all day long, I could see using 2 gph easy!!!!!! Most diesels, the higher the rpm the more fuel used.

You would think that to get better emission you would lean the motor and thus use less fuel. It makes no sence to burn more fuel but have better emissions for burning more fuel. Can someone explain how this can be the case?

I agree that the newer diesel trucks seem to use more fuel with the new emission engines but I still don't understand why this is the case. What changed with the new engines?
