English is almost a second language for most folks here in Texas, but in normal speaking we'd call that thing a "truck". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, while it looks nice in a "Trading Spaces" sort of style, with a paint job like that, the operator would likely be called a "hippie". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: My new \"Tak-Tak\"

As Gatorboy said, Mule, Gator. Those are names for similar (?) vehicles that are popular here for yard/farm/ranch chores. I like that one. Looks like it would be a lot of fun and would sure be a conversation piece. Zoomie's right, it sure reminds me of the 1960's. Then it was a VW bus painted rather like your tak-tak "trailer." John

? Didn't get it if this is a joke. Whats 1st language in TX then?

This one was painted by an old-style blacksmith workshop person who paints old ornamented horse carts. So, he would be last person on the earth to be called a hippie;). However, I agree in that with all floral beauty on the body, it looks like a hippie trailer. There are more than 1000 of this tak-tak trailer here, many are painted different according to the desire of user. Its name "tak-tak" is meaningless in Turkish too. This name comes from its noise of single cylinder diesel engine which is like tak-tak-tak-tak-tak;) This tak-tak trailer isn't known in other parts of Turkey, only in our small town where there are many fruit fields with many kind of fruits. It operates without a tractor as well as can also be pulled by a small tractor. I told you the cost, cheap. Send your own painting, design, and mechanic configuration and let me make it for you and get it in 3-4 weeks. All you will do there is to find a new/used single cylinder diesel engine and mount it to the front frame.

Re: My new \"Tak-Tak\"

Are the drive trains and transmissions readily available for these tak taks where you live?

I think more people here would build them if there was a reasonably prices availability of components of this size.

Best wishes,
Ron

Re: My new \"Tak-Tak\"

Of course here in the US a small single cylinder diesel engine just would not do. We'd want a multi-cylinder, powerful engine, some bigger tires, four wheel drive and a cup holder. Can you still do that for a couple hundred dollars?

Serisously though, that is a nifty little vehicle. I can think of many uses for one around our place. Thanks for posting about it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: My new \"Tak-Tak\"

Anything with an internal combustion engine must have a EPA approved green engine. If not it is up to a $27,000 fine per unit. Vehicles like this may be useful but do not meet safety standards for marketing and sale in the USA.

Re: My new \"Tak-Tak\"

Nomad;
When I first saw your Tak Tak I thought of an old military vehicle called the "mechanical mule". (see attachment) It was used by our US Marines. Your Tak Tak is much more stylish. Very nice.

Re: My new \"Tak-Tak\"

Yes, Ron. Drive train, transmission, gearbox, etc readily available here. Many of its components such as springs, wheels including rims, frames, seat, etc are new. Also, the engine which are usually 1-cyl. diesel Lombardini, or any other brand known worldwide are new engines which all are "green" engines. These tak tak trailers aren't recognized by traffic minister here yet although these have been used here "only" in our town for 20 years. Therefore, using them on the roads isn't permitted. But the rules aren't valid in the magma!. These trailers are being used in the gardens and farming fields only and indeed useful. Almost every person in this town has one from this vehicle trailer.

Re: My new \"Tak-Tak\"

SimS, indeed its very similar. Maybe, 2 or 3 decades ago, a farmer here saw it when he was doing his military service and applied the idea to farming, who knows.

Re: My new \"Tak-Tak\"

Cushman use to make vehicles similar to that for industrial purposes. Might still see some of them in use at airports or in warehouses. I saw one at an auction in St Clair, Mo last month. I tried to buy it but someone else was willing to pay more for it than I was.
