My New YM2000 - Questions & Comments!

In tall wet grass my 4 ft Howse rotary mower is all this YM240 (YM2000-equivalent) wants to pull. It's working pretty hard in 7th gear until I turn uphill, then I have to take a 3 ft cut, or occasionally shift down and crawl along, until I turn again at the upper corner of the field. A 5 ft mower might be more than it wants.

Whats the engine and PTO hp of the YM 2000?
20hp at the PTO, and the same engine installed in the US version of that tractor, (YM240), has a plate showing 24 engine hp.

I must be a wimp...I mow in 3rd gear most of the time.

Nice ride 1m21. Looks like you did well, even hitting the BIN.

I cut some real thick stuff this weekend & I puffed black smoke & bogged down several times with my 5 ft cutter. I had to raise it a bit .

1m21, That's a great price on a good tractor. And implements too! You did great.

Low range, or high? I probably should have said 3rd gear high range. Using just a 4 ft mower, that works it as hard as I want to push it.

I got a 5' 9" disc with this tractor that is too much for it, on these slopes. Last month I found a similar 3' 10" disc that pulls like it isn't even there.

Yesterday I posted about them (with photos) over in the Attachments forum thread:
Tandem disc; can I remove discs to make it narrower?

Questions:

2. How do I remove the sway chains to tighten up the turnbuckles to keep the implement from banging the **** out of the paddle tires each time I turn?
If your rear tires are not yet flipped flip them around. put left on right right on left. It will greatly help stability. Its almost impossible to get a standard cat 1
implement to not hit the tires without doing so. Once you do this and tighten the chains it will not hit the tires. i am a ym2000 owner and have gone through the same problems.

Thanks for the responses. I have to cut in 2nd H gear and it is just too slow IMHO to get much done. It will handle the 5' foot barely but I can tell it is asking alot for the tractor. I can cut in 3rd H if the grass is already cut or if I raise it significantly, but that is kinda defeating the purpose. It seems like it does an OK job, but 4' would work much easier. I am going to finish BH'ing tonight, so I will adjust the chains and go from there. I guess I need a bigger tractor. I am maintaining about 5 acres of pasture and other misc. duties. I figured it would be OK, as I maintain the rest (about 3 acres) with my garden tractor and keep it cut short.

Thanks for the info.

St Road, nice paint job and a good tractor.
I think you would do well to trade down to a 4 foot slasher.

I stole my Green meanie YM2000 from a guy for $6000 AUD.
I also got a tandem trailer with 1000kg crane, 4' slasher [new], 4' cultivator,
2' disc plough[too light], 12" posthole digger, 5' rake, 6' diamond tines and a couple of other bits.

Hopefully this pic will load.

Thanks for the advice. My dilemma is this: I am not living on the property that I maintain and thus will not use the tractor for anything more than hoggin', so I bought cheap b/c I figured that my investment was wise considering my utilization expetations. In retrospect, I might have gone with a slightly larger tractor & just been done with it, but that hindsight is only 20/20. (heh)

So, go figure. I guess I am in a quandry of sorts, but I will eventually figure it out.... :)

Thanks again,
Saint :D

My dilemma...
Relax. I would just take a 3 ft cut on the first pass when the grass is high; and the full 5 ft only when it needs minor grooming, and everything should be ok.

Be sure to keep the screen in front of your radiator clean. It can plug up quickly if there is a lot of chaff flying around, leading to overheating.
