Motor and pump installed. Dump and plow spool, fuel tank positioned. Some diamond plate rubber mats glued down. Working under a tarp in 104F with humidex.

Many of us wait with baited breath for it to move under its own power

That's for sure. But he is doing something which I could never do.......

...Waiting until after it's completely painted and finished before playing with it.

Welcome to my nightmare. Really hoping to get this thing running this weekend. Dropped another 1,500 in hydraulics in the past week. Nothing fits, too many adapters. At least 100 places it could leak. Everything I built mounts for has to be moved because the hoses are not flexible enough for the close quarters. Some things need ORB 10, ORB 8, ORB 6 and ORB 16. Others need 3/4 NPT, 1/2 NPT and 1 1\4 NPT.

Good grief!! I wonder if the space shuttle has that many hoses and levers. Good luck working it out.

I can never do that either. I'm not totally done with my backhoe, and I just had to play with it.

Still need the bucket hoses. I tried to hold out until I got the last hoses and the bracing done. But no. I had to hop on it and play in the dirt.

I dug a 2 feet deep by 5x5 hole. My dad asked me what I was digging a hole for? I told him, no reason the hole needed dug, I was just playing in the dirt with my new toy.

I dunno, I might dig it a bit deeper and wider once I get my bucket curl hoses and throw some trash and brush down in there and burn it. Before I cover the hole back up.

Then it will be on too the digging for a purpose. "The water line". lol

Hope you get to play with your new toy soon David.

Well I got it together and sort of working. I am in vacation mode and will not be able to investigate, modify for another month. The status is, I need proper 5L belts, substituted 4L but the narrower belts don't grip. Thus belt slipage at 1500 PSI. Temp solved with tightening tensioner. Unable to build more then 1500 PSI, so has trouble turning in dirt. OK on hard surface but paved driveway protested. I have a few Pressure relief vavles to adjust, all supposedly set at 2000 PSI at factory but appears to be 1500.

I may have to change reduction chain drive to 3:1 from 2:1. All the discussion about teflon paste vs teflon tape. From now on its tape all the way and I have been repairing leaky paste connections with teflon tape. Also tape will always let you do one more full turn to correctly clock a connection. Better yet try and avoid NPT fitted componets. ORB ones are not leaking. Anyway it looks sweet sitting on its trailer.

Very cool, and NPT fittings of any kind are evil in my book. Give me ORFS, ORB, or JIC any day. Heck, I'd rather use BSPP before NPT.

Finally get to go up and work on my tracked dumper Thursday. Going armed with some exhaust gasket material (no gaskets currently on muffler), two 5L belts, and four modified wheels to position the track. As well I have to reverse one control, adjust the pressure reliefs to 2000 PSI. Place some magnets on the oil tanks. One of the first things that happened was a breather cover has a metal bracket that locks it to the breather port. The nut on the bracket worked loose and must be in the tank. I have a telescoping magnet tool so hopefully I can fish it out. Next time I will use a strainer in the suction port.

If these new wheels work out, I will be making four more for the front. Basically I cut four 10' dia discs out of 1/4 plate. Machined a hub to hold a bearing and bolted it to a solid rubber wheel.

I spent some more time on the tracked dumper. Added a couple more steel \solid rubber wheels. Tapped all the axle shafts for 5/8 nuts instead of cotter pins which helps to keep the bearings in the wheels. I bent all 240 track guides in slightly to keep the steel wheels from riding up. I need to make some solid steel wheels for the front axles as there is just too much weight with the cab and blade on. I have also changed the gearing from 2:1 to 2.7:1. Here is a short video.

That is really awesome to see it in action. I've been following your thread since you stared and your craftsmanship is amazing! I bet you can't wait to push snow once you get your blade mounted.

That thing is a beast. I guess I never really understood the scale of the project until I saw you on it in the video.

I will be going back to camp in a couple of weeks armed with some HD front road wheels which I am making out of four 12 inch brake rotors. Then I will be able to mount the plow. The plow is made from a cut down scraper blade so it is very heavy. Thanks for the comments. I am taking it real easy until the ground freezes. I also need to modify my idler pulley so I can tighten the pump belts as they are slipping when I throttle up.

Impressive. Well done. It'll be interesting to see it in the snow.
