My recent build efforts: a) finished assembling the second track, and b) installed the sunroof assembly. I plan to mount the various LED light units this week. I recently thought it would be cool to use a touchscreen display to control the various light units. I could make the graphics look the way I want. To look into the feasibility of doing that I bought a Raspberry Pi microcomputer to play around with. It can be programmed to do just about anything I could conjure up and is readily be connected to a GUI touchscreen. We'll keep you updated. :licking:

I did some welding today on the engine hood. Tomorrow, I'll make the louvered radiator exhaust panel to finish it off. I am thinking of using a pair of gas-assist lift cylinders to keep the hood up - note the piano hinge in the rear.

I spent the last couple of days fabbing up the rear radiator grill:

I got my touchscreen light control setup working in the lab. I plan to mount the display into the overhead dashboard. This display would allow me to control other items too like the wipers. I also started work on the two toolbox housings that straddle and close out the engine bay.

Can this screen be actuated while wearing gloves?? I'm a fan of plain, yet large switches and the KISS system in general.... :)

Good question Arly. I'll test it.

There are 2 types of touch screens. Resistive & capacitive. Resistive ones work just on pressure, but suck for sensitivity, calibration & scratching. They arent used much anymore, especially on any quality gear. Capacitive is what's on all modern smartphones. The main downside is basically needing slightly electrically conductive things to manipulate them. There are a good number of touch screen compatible gloves out there at reasonable prices. The coatings on them that make them work can often wear off after a while though.

I'm a huge nerd & computer guy with a stack of Raspberry Pis for various projects. But tend to agree on the KISS bit. It really annoys me that on my 2014 F350, the only way to operate my heated & cooled seats is via a menu burried on the touch screen. Newer F350s & my wife's Ford Escape went back to real physical buttons. I presume due to similar frustrations & ease of use issues.

Its really hard to hit the right spot on the screen when bouncing down the road (much less off-road) & when you miss, you usually end up not only not doing what you want, but activating something else, changing the channel or ending up in some other menu you didnt want. With a physical switch you can brace your fingers somewhere & get a tactile feedback you are on the right switch before you actually push & actuate it.
