I agree with the others.. gelled fuel.. or ice plugigng a filter.

If you had an oil bath air filter.. there could be water in it, froze, blocking air... ( i don't see too many oil bath air filters... manufacturers like you to buy them throwaways$$$$.. )

Big word for antigel additive. It is afterall a additive that depress's (lowers) the pour point.

Well I got the tractor going.
I placed a tarp over the tractor, and put a small space heater on the floor, and slightly warmed near the fuel filter area..(heater was far from tarp, and not directly pointed at tractor) I also added PS 911 to the tank, and a small bit to the filter bowl.
Heater doesnt throw out much heat but was enough to take the fuel up to temp.
I measured tractor temp with infrared thermometer before heating, and it indicated 12 degrees. Fuel bowl got up to 33 degreee, and then I removed the heater.

It started fine after that, and the filter bowl cleared up, except for the filter..
I assume that this photo is the gell, but it wouldnt combine back with the diesel, even after warmed up and the 911 added..
I replaced filter today and tractor is fine.. Though temp is ~22 degrees

I thought 911 was supposed to make the gel recombine with the fuel.. But it didnt in the bowl, even after adding a slight amout to the bowl...

Just a dumb okie diesel tech tech here but I have a question. Down here it doesn’t get as cold (60 today, 35 tomorrow) we get down to the single digits from time to time. Does diesel fuel just naturally "gel" up there when it gets that cold, or is it due to water in the fuel? I know trucks have fuel heaters built into them at the filter base but nothing in the tank. The water will sit at the bottom of the tank bound together in little jellyfish looking bubbles; I can’t count the times I have seen that. We treat that like contaminated fuel and do a drain and flush on the tank with a new filter(s). So with all that said is this "powerservice" stuff just an emulsifier of the water molecules to help it pass through the system without "gelling", or am I just lucky enough to not ever have to deal with an inherent property of diesel fuel.
Any of you guys ever thought of a way to hook up a fuel heater to tractors, you could use a relay and have it come on with your glow plugs. A 6.5 gm diesel filter has one 3/8 inlet and 2 3/8 outlets, also has a fuel heater (in the bottom). I think they are about 150 to 200 bucks for the complete unit (filter, base, bracket, heater and sensors) and they use plain rubber fuel line.

It was 60 here today and I played, oops worked my little Kubota till almost 5.

Yes. I brought this up a long time ago.

The link to the Fleetguard system in that old thread is no good. This should work:

Hey Dan, its too **** cold here I live in Holland.Had the same issue as you last night and I have been adding at least twice the recommended amount of the white power service.I had to change my filter because the gelled fuel didnt reliquify as the 911 says it will.Mine died on a hill with the fuel tank lower than the filter.70 hp international that I have no way to jack up.I used a foot pump for inflating rafts and a mason jar lid to make a fuel cap and pressurized the tank. With the line loose at the inj pump it pushed out the air and fired right up.Scary how well it worked anyhow stay warm and keep a fiew spare filters as this new fuel is crap in the cold mine looked like green jelly.Jason

Forget the additives. Get some straight #1 fuel. Move the unit inside, get it warm, drain the #2 and replace it with #1. Until the suppliers figure out the blend ratios of the new fuel, any #2 you buy is likely to gel, additives or not.

What do you mean by #1 fuel ?Off road diesel?because your right it seems it will gell regardless of additives.

No, not off-road. #1 is a different grade of diesel made just for using in cold weather. It may not be *easy* to find, but it can be found. It is very, very nearly the same thing as kerosene or Jet-A. You can use either of these but there is no lubricity requirement associated with them as there is with #1, so add some lubricity additive if that's all you can find.

To All:

I got my tractor dealership and the place where I buy my diesel all "worked up" today. We were all ranting  about the ULSD diesel fuel that most of us have to buy without anyone except maybe DieselPower  knowing what we have to add to this new fuel in order to have it not gell up at temperatures ranging 7 degrees F and lower. My tractor dealer is still using his leftover "off-road" diesel on his tractors which is probably LSD or older, higher concentration sulfur diesel and/or kerosene added to his existing diesel to prevent/minimize gelling. My dealer's diesel truck using ULSD is having difficulty with gelling. The "high volume" diesel station where I purchase (and most other diesel operators) diesel fuel is also complaining that the #1 ULSD fuel although rated from their distributor as rated for -5 degrees F is still gelling and/or clouding at current temperatures without additional additives. The refineries appear to be in the process of determining the right "mixture" which does ot help us in "real time". I have had very good "results" de-gelling my old (#2) fuel mix using my electric heat gun aimed at my sediment bowl and a newly replaced fuel filter paired with a "double+ shot" of Power Service White. I have not had problems (yet) with my #1 diesel with a "double" of Power Service White. Jay
