My Truck Is Talking To Me

My wife found it on the internet. She knew what I was looking for and found it about a 3 hour drive from our house. They seemed really hard to find in a 3/4 ton that didn't have over 100,000 miles on them. It seemed like it was priced at or a little below what 1/2 tons were. I'm not very patient when it comes to looking for things on the internet. After about an hour I get frustrated and give up.

I purchased my 2015 Chevrolet 2500 HD 4x4 in September of 2015 for $37k out the door, it stickered for $ 42k and after all rebates and special offers that was the final price, that was with them installing a leveling kit and spray in bedliner and I payed for the running boards, mine is just a base model Silverado with vinyl floormats and cloth seats and dogleg 4x4, it does have power windows and locks, cruise tilt back-up camera etc, but that was exactly what I was looking for, carpet and fancy seats would only get ruined by me, I do wish it had a CD player though. The 6.0 gas motor has been great pulled everything I have hooked it to with ease, I posted a picture of it in post#5.

Those new trucks sure are good looking, my last new one was an 05 Dodge 4x4 quad cab hemi, ran good until the transfer case went out at 285,000 & took the whole driveline with it.
My current 95 F150 2wd, inline 6, 5 speed has 175,00 on it & does the 70 mile round trip 5 days a week, sure wish it had power windows.
I could re build the whole truck cheaper than a new one:shocked:

My current 1998 F150 had started to show age problems a couple of years ago and each year more problems creep in. Mileage on the truck is not the issue. The major point for me is that this small block V8 truck can only pull 5800 lbs and even with that it struggles. Things have changed in the 18 years that I've owned this truck and a major one is being a new commercial farm operation that requires consistent short distance and infrequent longer distance(600 - 1000 miles) towing up to 10K lbs. To this point I have delayed many towing tasks or have used local and distant services to deliver materials and equipment. That's fine for awhile but the costs and juggling logistics is problematic. I will still use some of these services for heavier and longer distance deliveries.

Don't knock his ford. The miles didn't kill it the time did. It is 20 years old. I think OP buying a new truck every 20 years is great even if he doesn't drive much.

That being said I would rethink your strategy if buying new. The new diesels are awesome but very complex. I would not want to own a 2008 or later diesel out of warranty because they are expensive to fix. Same could be said for the ecoboost. I would not want to try and drive one of those for 20 years either.

I totally disagree that fords are built tougher. I feel like my '12 f150 is built squarely for the grocery getter market. Not designed to be tough at all.

The 2011 I used to have before my 2016 felt fine at 75mph with 500lbs of crap in the bed and another 600lbs of tonque weight on the hitch. Not sure what you drove before your 2012 but must've been a 3/4 ton or more.

Well THAT makes a lot of difference.
Now your talking making money, tax deductions, greater need for no down time and a lot more miles.

Let the new thread begin!

Have tried locating a 2016 GMC in my region with right balance of options, price, and color. Seems that all trucks I've come across are either WT(under optioned) or Denali's(over optioned) and mostly black on black. Since the 2017s are coming I'll wait and test drive the GMC/Chevy and Ford in 3/4 and 1 ton classes. Based on that I'll pounce on a good deal over the coming months. I had my coolant leaks fixed and I fixed the shift indicator problem on my F150. The same day I got my truck back the engine is misfiring badly on hills. My guess is that I probably have a coil pack that's gone bad. I'll find out tomorrow.
