my turn.....pole barn

This project took alot longer to do then i thought it would but here it is. Everything except the roof was done by myself and alot of help from friends and family.





My wife use to call this pole henge. i still can't figure out how to post these as attached files.

So there it is, It is 48x32, 3 10x10 doors in the front 1 10x10 door in the back, and 1 man door. 12' ceiling.

Those pics of your tractor in the mud sure make it look miserable. You must really be dedicated to be out working in those conditions!!! Then the snow really makes it look bad. I'll take 100 degrees and 95 percent humidity over that any day!!!!

I thought 48x32 would be enough [and i am sure it will be] but another 10' longer and 5 ' wider would probably have been alittle better.

Thats about the size I'm looking at, but I'd like to add a gambrel roof I could have a loft or small apt.
Was this a kit or did you just design and build it?

No you didn't post to soon Eddie i went back and edited my pics to show up thanks to you and Robert.

I did think of a gambrel it would suit the farm, but i guess it came down to wanting a similar roofline to the house.

Yes i designed and built it. I did need a engineer to put it on his paper. Unfortunatly he didn't know much about pole barns, 1st mistake.

A few years ago a home owner could have taken a barn plan to the city on a napkin and there engineers would "design" it. I guess they figured well heck that costs us money, so now you have to get your own engineer. Because of this change the engineers had to get a certain certifacation which at the time not to many people in my area had.

Were those trusses designed for 2' on center? Most pole barns that use metal for a roofing are a minimum of 4' on center. Is this one of the mistakes you were talking about. Personally, if it is then other then costing you twice as much money it will make for a much stronger roof.

Overall the barn looks great. It is nice to see people put overhangs on their buildings. Keep the water as far away from the wall as you can from the start and it will help minimize problems in the future.

Money we won't go there but i try to do it right the first time.
Yes the trusses are 2' i don't like sagging, and 2'is required when insulation will be used[ at a future date].
Most of the mistakes are of being square, mostly because to much time passed between getting to it. [to much time was the biggest mistake]. I have a very full time job. running a side buss, family and other work around the house. oh yeah the same story as most other people.

Well, it would be hard to notice it being out of square from pictures so if that is the worst mistake on this barn you are doing well

It is amazing what metal will hide.

There was some head scratching some misinformation and missing/ordered parts. In the end i am happy.
