You could do the same thing an ex-coworker did for plumbing. He cut a hole in the siding and placed a funnel in the hole...instant urinal.

The funnel's a nice touch. Much more sophisticated than a simple hole in the wall. Safer, too.

My question is how did you get those trusses up into place? When I built my barn I built the loft floor first and then laid out each truss on that surface. It was a fairly easy job for me to rotate the trusses into place by myself. Of course, mine were only 20 feet wide. I love the look of your structure, I wish I had thought to put a metal roof on mine.:thumbsup:

I have mention it in other posts before and even had a diagram, but I dont actually have any pictures of the attachment.

Basically, I had a 20' 3-leg TV tower. Set the FEL bucked down with the bottom and cutting edge resting flat on it. Then strapped it around the bucket. Then we attached another of out heavy 27' ratchet straps to the tip, and then back to the top lip of the bucket for added strength. Kinda the way a crane has the cables comming off the top and back down behind the counterweight.

That is it in a nutshell. Got the height I needed to reach the peak. One person on the tractor, and one on each side atop the wall.

Funny, when I was younger (maybe 8) my brothers and I did this in out old clubhouse.

Thanks for posting material costs - you kept them way down! That is making me think more and more of starting to get materials together to start my own pole barn project. I checked with our electric utility - they refuse to part with their used poles, so I will have to find either another source or another type of post. I think it has something to do with the anti-rot treatment they used on older poles and liability if they release them to the public.

I wonder what they do with them then??

I know my local electric comany isn't the only one that gives them away. Well, they actually ask for a ouple of dollars donation to charity in exchange, and they dont load them for you either. But I have read online of other people in different areas doing similar.

What really cracks me up is every once in awhile, I will see ads on c-list for people selling used utility poles for $40-$50:confused2: Some people just dont know.

Keep looking. There's nothing half so good as those used utility poles. The way it works here is if the utility replaces poles on public property they dispose of them. But on private property the landowner has to buy the new poles and so the old ones are his and are either left where they lay or the utility will chop them up and remove for a fee. Subdivisions are a possibile source. Downside is that transporting the old poles is a chore. You need a long trailer and some way to lift them on.
Cheap construction requires innovative scrounging.
