Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

You probably know what size you need and which tractor you want. My advice is to keep the tractor conversation in the household to a minimum for awhile and grease the skids with a piece of jewelry and a night out on the town. If your wife doesn't like jewelry, then get her what works. This technique often works! After all, the military has been effectively using psyops for years.

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

I have to go along with those that say bigger is better. When we moved here 8 years ago, I purchased a JD 425 lawn and garden tractor( 20 HP gasoline, at 800#) with a 48" MMM, a 48" snowblower and a 5' blade. One year later, I felt the need for something larger and a front loader. I traded up to a JD 445 garden tractor(22 HP gasoline engine at about 900#) with a 48" front loader. Two years later, I traded again and now have a JD4200 (26HP diesel, at 2700#) with 4WD, a 60" front loader, with fork lift attachment, 59 inch snowblower, a 60" MMM, a boom pole and a backhoe. My wife was out of town when the last one was delivered. When she returned her only comment was: "We need more land." My point is: going bigger earlier would have saved me a barrel of money and perhaps would have kept my JD dealer from having such a big smile on his face every time he sees me. Once you have a tractor you and your wife will be using it for more things than you can imagine. Last year in order to reclaim the tractor which my wife was using as a wheelbarrow, I bought her her own JD LX 176 lawn tractor with a 10 cu ft trailer to use for mowing around the house (2700# is a bit large for mowing near the house) and to use as a mechanized wheel barrow.

Good luck,

Bill

Hi rww_94,

You got some great info here. I've got about 3 acres , and my TC21D is just right for me. New Holland TC21D is about the same size as the Kubota 7500. I think you will be very happy if you spend the extra money, and get a tractor that will do heavier work. I know I was. I use my tractor almost every outside job that I do. I'm not joking. Carrying my tools and plants to my garden, hauling ground, leveling stone & ground, trimming trees, plowing snow, and mowing grass. I could go on all day. It can be a wonderful tool if used correctly. Stick to your guns. The 7500 is going to do more work for you.

Try agreeing with her, but keep it subtle....hmm, you might have a point about that......or that is logical, I hadn't thought of it that way. If you are not too obvious, upgrading to a bigger tractor will quickly become HER idea....then you are home free /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

If the Kubota 7500 is about the same as the New Holland TC21D I think you would be much happier with it than the smaller one. I have 2.25 acres, had a TC21D and was not happy with it because of my side hill. I traded my 21 in for a 29 and now am happy. Tell your wife you don't want to make the same mistake as I did.

I must be married to a GOOD WOMAN. I got what I wanted, a 5030 and she picked it out. the 33K didn't really hurt so bad. I really liked my L3710, but the 5030 with the factory cab is a cadillac /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

I must be missing something.

I have over 30 acres with trails and a pond, with common sense I am yet find a job too big for my BX. I wonder what exactly one would need a big tractor for with 3 acres or less. I finish mowing my 3 acre lawn in less than one hour with the BX.

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

Always buy bigger when it comes to tractors. My wife almost fainted when she saw my L3010. I told her it was that or another Harley.
She said no problem(then made me buy her a new car...)
I have 5 acres.

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

It sounds like I have the exact same piece of property as you. I'm on 2.25 acres with lots of slopes with about 1/4 of it being woods. I ended up going with the B7500 as opposed to the BX2200. I'm still happy with that decision. To be honest, while the ground clearance is an issue I don't believe there is much you couldn't do with the BX that just doesn't require a little different strategy ie smooth out the obstacle before driving over it. My biggest reason for not going with the BX was the fact that you couldn't get a back hoe for it. The lack of ground clearance and sitting position were minor issues. If I were to buy now I think I would go for the BX22. The BX22 was not out when I made my purchase. I have many jobs around the house that the back hoe would be valuable for and the price of the machine would have been close to my B7500 with the deck, front loader and the grass catcher. Now I sit here with the prospect of doing all of these chores with a shovel being unable to justify or afford the price of a back hoe for my B7500.

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

Hi murph,

The TC21D, and Kubota 7500 are in the exact same size, and HP range. When I was shopping I looked hard at the 7500. When I found my TC21D used with 92 hrs on it, I had my mind made up for me. Also you mention in many of your posts about the TC21 not working for you. I'm assuming that the side hill is the only reason. I've got some decent banks on my property, and for safety reasons I do not run my TC21 on it. That being said I wouldn't run any tractor on it. Its just too steep. I guess what I'm asking is other then the side hill was there any other problems with the TC21? I guess I'm just curious.
