Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

I will not sway you off or to either the BX or the B. They both have their advantages.

But bigger is not always better. I say this looking STRICTLY at implements. Try lifting or positioning a 5 foot blade verses an 8 foot blade, try positioning your 54" FEL verses your 60". Try your 5 foot york rake verses the bigger variety. Getting them on and off the tractor is what I mean.

Sometimes the bigger stuff just plain old HURTS more.

Interesting comment because that is one of the primary reasons I went up to the B2910 from the B7500 or B2410...the telescoping lower 3 pt. links. I could've done a retro-fit, but I felt the other features were worth it as well.

I didn't need the extra horsepower or size, but considered as a package, I felt the bigger one was a better deal for me. And I've yet to have to strain to connect anything. It's hard to put a value on aches and pains you don't get.

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

Like has anyone here been sorry that they bought too big of a tractor??? I would like to know. It seems to me the majority of posts people will say buy as big as you can afford. Am I the only one that bought too small and was sorry about it?

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

SteveM,

Granted hiring a backhoe man for $90.00 and hour might be wiser than buying a backhoe attachment for the little tractor.

But, I have to say I own a home on 2.12 acres that has been severely neglected. Driveway is shot, lots of trees on hills needing cleaned out, retaining wall needs replaced, a natural spring poped up in my yard, etc., etc., etc., but I love the location of the place and the house. I do not mind working as long as I have help due to Bad back L3, L4, L5, bad knees (just found bone sliver in my knee Doc wants to cut and remove).

I purchased my little tractor in April 2002 for this help and have worked its little a#! off. Right now I am at 180 hours and still going strong.

But for convenience of having the backhoe to dig a hole here and one there any time I need it or my wife wants it is worth it.

Just my honest opinion.

Hey riptides

I gotta disagree with you on this implement size problem. Everything I have is suited to at least a 70 hp tractor or bigger. All you have to do is figure out how you are going to hook-up and un-hook prior to doing it. If you do it correctly size does not matter.

Nah,

What Woodbeef is suggesting - it's the positioning that counts.

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

I went through the same thing with my wife. She thought the 7500 was plenty big enough, and I knew the B2910 might be big enough. I stuck to my guns, got the 2910, and I couldn't be happier with it. I've shown her many, many things that I could have never done with the smaller tractor, and she agrees that I was right. This doesn't happen very often (according to her) so I never hesitate to point it out to her when I do something special with the tractor.

On the other hand, you have different fingers.

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

Do NOT get the 2200. We went through the same delima and thank goodness we bought the 7500. We're on 2.5 acres with some trees and un-improved ground. The 7500 is adequate. At times, it has barely enough ground clearance. A bigger machine might have been nicer but we're happy. My wife says we should have bought it five years ago. But we never even though of it then.
Get the 7500 with HST, FEL and backhoe. Then you can reform your estate property as you like.

Re: My wife says I\'m buying too much tractor HELP?

Murph's got a good point about being able " to forget about the world and be at peace". There is something about "working" outdoors on a tractor that calms the spirit. And, they certainly hold their value especially if they're well maintained.
