Fried- you ,ust have been working that day. IIRC summer this year is scheduled for a Saturday.

Either that or it missed Argentia that year, sometimes that happens too.

My wife wants a Gazebo, to impress all at this summer's family reunion, and maybe drink tea as I sweat during the summer.

You know what they say, Happy wife, happy life.

I'm really not too excited about spending money we do not have to buy a pre-built and delivered Gazebo, nor do I look forward to the challenge of designing my own.
I admit I'm getting lazier and lazier.

Are there any kits available that supply the fancy stuff, any special hardware and templates for cutting your own lumber.

Vinyl trim would be nice. Looking for a 10-12 ft. size.

I can't be the first guy trying to get out of this for minimum $$$$ outlay and effort.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Best

Mike W.

Buy a decent compound miter saw then a nice set of plans that sets your gazebo apart from the clones.

I have two portable miter saws and my dad's old Delta table saw plus a shop miter saw.
Plan A.
http://www.calredwood.org/pdf/Projects/Lake+Tahoe+Gazebo.pdf
I would need to reinforce it for our winds at Breezy ridge.

Plan B.

Metal, Chasing one down on Craig's List.
I壇 Lay a patio. I壇 Anchor the base really good & reinforce against the wind.
still it might not work out.

Having Bug netting is a plus.
Screens would be expensive.

We both wanted a gazebo in the back yard but realized that there are now ten of us (wife and I, two daughters, two s-I-ls, four grands) and a gazebo big enough to be useful would be prohibitively expensive. So we poured a slab and had a carport type metal awning put up. Not your usual cheap metal carport but one with vertical roofing and gables. We have seated more than twenty people for a meal under it. In the summer it is the place the grands head to play. Not as pretty as a gazebo but also nowhere near as expensive.

Just bite the bullet as they say. ;)
Since you leave in Central NH there many places to visit also home trade shows coming up for ideas and special prices.

My Wife's uncle did something similar; built a low deck just above ground level and covered it with a metal double-car-size carport. It has mature shade trees along the south side which provide all-day shade, and a small outdoor kitchen off one corner. Had many a family gathering there since they built it a few years ago.

Mine has suggested on occasion building a small one between the house and the barn - or even possibly on a small island in the lake, like a Japanese tea house - but realized we would rarely use it. We're adding a sunroom on the back of the house instead.

I built one for my wife. Hardly gets used. Hot in the summer even with two ceiling fans. Most of the lumber came from the sawmill. Mortise and tenon joints. Not as nice as Eddie's.

This is what I did. An extension off of the house... a covered 'entertainment area', if you will. I 'use it' constantly, if only to enjoy a pipe of tobacco whilst contemplating the world & my domain.
