Nice, thanks for the update! You going to pour a slab for the floor?

Take care and be safe.

Yes there will be a 6 to 8 inch slab eventually but it may be a couple years in coming and may have to be poured in sections. There is no budget set aside for the $20K it will require for a slab at this time. I have money set aside for purchase of steel to build the doors and complete the walls once I get to that point, but have give serious thoughts to use a large part of that to rent a machine that would mine and move the fill faster than I can with my backhoe. However since I have the backhoe to do the job with spending money for a large loader like a 977 cat just so I can complete the fill faster seems like possibly money wasted

Since you have a backhoe, would it be cheaper to rent a Dumper? site dumper - Image Search

Or even a small dump truck?

I have a 5.5 cu yd clamshell scraper that I pull behind my Kubota. It's a great tool for moving dirt. I paid $4,700 for it. I'll never sell it. Too handy to have it sitting in the machine shed waiting for the next task. :)

A scraper would work had I done this in strip mining fashion instead of pit.
tippers or site dumpers work well but would need to be self loading
Like the ones I used to sell and service while working overseas

SO anyway I used to sell the Silla site dumpers most of which were self loaders.
Since I am having to mine the material then pile it up before loading it in the loader bucket a site dumper would only do much good if it were a large one like 3 yards or so then I could mine and fill it at the same time then go dump and return.
I could use a straight tandem dump truck but it is never good to have both the backhoe and a dump truck backed up close to a pit. If I had my Kubota KH191 excavator running this could be solved as I would have full rotational swing for mining the pit then swinging around 180° to dump the bucket directly in the dump truck.
If I were to get something like a tracked loader I would turn the pit into a strip mine or a mid sized rubber tire loader such as a John Deere 644 with a toothed 5 yard bucket I could make short work of the project. Probably be able to mine and transport a couple hundred cubic yards in a single day

or maybe get this little guy running with its front mounted bale d and spend the next 10 years moving dirt

All good ideas. Personally (for my use) a little clamshell scraper would be fun to have...

I also have a 23 hp diesel zero turn mower without a deck that I could get running and make a pair of tracks for it then turn it into a tracked skid steer by making a loader for it but that was a project that I have been putting off
The sand out here between where I have the pit and the building would mean any type of vehicle other than a tractor type vehicle would require me to pad the trail into a harder more stable surface just more mining is all that would mean
So much fun so many options.
I have a wet kit and dump cylinders and a 12 ft truck bed that I could use to transform my Cabover Freightliner into a dump truck but then I'd have to remove the set up to use it to move trailers around again once the project is complete.
Every solution that I see that I could come up with involves 2 things to accomplish time and money. And in the end probably would extend the project even longer than just slogging away with the backhoe after all most folks don't even have one of those to work with.

Frank I'm having the same issue with attachments. For some reason it's not user friendly at all today. I finally just gave up.

Yep kind of like wishing in one hand and the other one is filled with something else.
I could be having to do this with a wheelbarrow and a shovel
