Well not getting a lot done to the shop Finished the transmission on the dodge rebuilt the mower deck on the wife's lawn tractor.
Had some small jobs come in shorted out the PCB on my mig welder had to repair that all much fun
the Bobcat showed up it is an 863, the steering control was so bad we couldn't risk trying to drive it off of the trailer so had to drag it off Spent a couple days getting that thing operable but it still has a couple hydraulic leaks I haven't been able to clear up and an engine oil leak in a place that is going to require pulling the engine to repair that. I've used it some but at its size less fill can be moved with it in a given hour than with my 775b the bobcat has nearly slick tires so using it to mine with is out but it is handy for maneuvering in tight areas so all in all it is helpful.
My backhoe has developed a bad leak at the cross shaft for the rt side brake and is going through way more transmission oil than it should so had to order parts for that. Not that I mind using a coupls gallons of oil a day other than it gets expensive after a while I cant afford to damage the transmission due to running it extremely low on oil
But some progress has been made I have extended the pad out some getting ready for a shipping container to show up in a week or so

As long as I am using the hoe and have it on the outriggers it is barely a drip but running back and forth up and down the hill transporting material is when it leaks the most
It has always lost transmission oil over time but hadn't been a huge problem as I would always check it before operating and top everything off usually it was a gallon, but having to add a couple gallons every day is ridiculous when the cure cost less than the cost of a days worth of oil. the old machine probably has half a billion hours on it I have no way of knowing as the only 2 gages that still work are the water temp and the engine oil pressure I really don't need any other gages

You know a man of action when he has a bus in 2 parts, 90 degress of each other, one a mobile scaffold, and the other 10' in the air! Amazing Frank, amazing.

So whats next? You planning to put some walls on the shop?

Did you get any rain from storm Crystobal?

I'm getting ready to pour a concrete drive up pad outside of my shop, tired of weed eating my driveway!

Be safe out there.

No rain.
I have lots and lots of fill to place long before I need walls in my way.
I ordered a 19ft by 48 ft billboard tarp last week. I plan on making a 48 ft wide roll up door out of it more as an experiment than anything else. What I will do is stretch and secure it along the top then attach the bottom to a large-ish diameter pipe with cables to roll it with attach the cables on the outside at the top run them down under the ends of the pipe then up on the inside to a pair of drums attached to a long shaft driven by a gear box. the tarp is made out of 15 oz material so it will weigh about 100 lbs , and depending on if I have to fill the pipe for added weight to help keep the tarp from blowing it could weigh upwards of a couple hundred lbs I will probably have to use those wind up springs like in commercial overhead doors to compensate some for the weight.
Part of my reasons for wanting such a large wide door is I sometimes work on farm equipment then is still 30 feet wide when folded up. If this fails to live up to expectations plan "b" is to build a set of rolling doors to disappear by telescoping beside each other like those of an elevator.
The tarp was cheap enough to give it a try even if it only lasts a couple of years.
When I get ready for the floor and apron pour that job will probably cost as much as the 17 acres and the house did

As long as the shop is nothing more than a roof over head there is not a lot of need for lighting during the day even once the walls and doors are in place if I were to install some sky light panels most of the time artificial lighting would not be required for most things. except on cloudy and rainy days when there will be limited light from the sun.
However the lack of lighting means daylight hours only and most of the time this is just fine but for those times when something has to go out the next day and it is already sundown.

So I bought a couple of 100 watt ultra thin UFO high bay LED lights to see how much light I can expect to have given that I place 4 or 5 on each of the 3 center trusses about 10 feet apart I could go with fewer larger lights but the fewer the number and the brighter the lights the deeper the shadows are more fixtures affords a better overlap which helps to reduce or eliminate shadowing this is what a single 100watt fixture does

I think I will eventually have 12 to 15 of these in this section of the shop and 6 in the second section
2100 watts total of lighting in the 6000 square footage of the eventual size of the shop will use less electricity than the lighting I had in my old 6000 sq ft. shop and have twice the illumination I had 15 of the 500 watt halogen and mercury lamps in that shop the energy consumption was around 7.5 KW and only produced around 105,000 lumens of useable light
These things cost about the same as just the bulbs of the other kind of lights plus put out nearly 1.8 times as much light per unit @ only 100 watts power consumption per disk. Additionally I will probably set them up so I have 3 to 6 zones so will only have the lights on that are needed
All calculations are approximated

Yes! I have 9 of them in my 30'x60' shop with 16'H ceiling and am really happy with them, they are quite amazing.

The green box talks wirelessly (RF) to the switches (3 bays, 3 lights per bay). No wires run to the switches, pretty slick.

What is the distance range of the signal and can it be done as a 3 way or 4 way switching arrangement

Here is the cut sheet for the controller: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/369913_ENG.pdf

I did not see it spec'd the distance, I will keep looking.

3 way, meaning control the lights at different doorways? Like, if you turn the lights off at the North door, and come back in the South door, can you turn them on at the south entrance? Yes, most definitely will work. You will just get a second or third switch and pair them with the same controller.
