And so the next step begins. The task is to lower the trailer about 3 feet.
This will entail separating the chassis from the box. Fortunately I had this in mind when I built it making the chassis and sub frame separately.
I will begin by cribbing up at the rear all the way to the sub frame which extends further back than the chassis then place 2 cribbing stacks on each side nearer the front one stack on each side will be under the trailer to allow it to be raised off of the chassis after I gouge the welds free the other stacks will be placed much wider apart so after the box is raised I can work a house moving beam between the box and the chassis and let it rest on the cribbing then it will be just a matter of removing the jacks and smaller stacks of cribbing and driving out from under the box. After that it may get interesting lowering the box in stages
the beginning of block stacking

Thanks for the updates Frank. Following this project. Curious as to how you lower it. :)

Thanks for the updates Frank. Following this project. Curious as to how you lower it. :)

I had to order some gouge carbons for gouging out the welds I placed between the chassis and the sq tubing I welded to the bottom of the box
Once they come in and I have all of the welds removed I will raise it from bot sides in the front High enough to slide a house moving beam between the chassis and the sq tubing. then the weight will be off the chassis and I can hopefully drive out without knocking the whole shebang to the ground
The truck is on a steep downhill slope so in order to prevent the rear of the chassis from raising up and making contact I may even remove the tires and just install some bare rims for it to roll on.
Lowering will probably be tedious the loader of my back hoe can lift the rear so I can remove one layer of blocks at a time but I am not sure if it can lift the front. if not then it will mean lowering by jacks a few inches at a time

I'm really looking forward to this process Frank. Document as always. Wish I were your neighbor. I'd enjoy spending half a day with you getting that thing on the ground!!!!

Is that your prediction or when you give up? Seriously, I am wondering how this will go as well. Yes please doc with pics!

The carbons arrived this afternoon so hopefully tomorrow I will get to gouge out some welds.
However I am going to play chicken and secure the top of the trailer to the building before I start cutting it free. because inside I have heavy storage bins stacked all the way to the roof if this thing happened to be loaded a lot heavier on one side than the other I wouldn't want it to topple once cut free from the chassis. I don't see it as actually being top heavy to one side but you never know. As long as I trap it between the back hoe the building and the Affiliated van it cant go anywhere but straight up or down and I have plenty of good cribbing to prevent uncontrolled down
me and a friend of mine moved a 40 foot tall church steeple from one building to the next once using only jacks and timbers and almost nothing to keep it vertical except for a good amount of prayers from the congregation

A while back someone either on this thread or another one mentioned one of the things the liked about my progress pictures were things in the background
So I thought this might be as good a time as any to bring a few of those background items to the front after all many of them are in part the reason for my building the shop in the first place. and some of them I should just sell off
this may take a couple of posts to show many of them so bare with me
