Mystery Motor?

I used to play cowboys and engines when I was a kid (er child). My motor and fadder disproved so I ran rice corsets with a wheel barrel.

I do believe the spice shuddle uses liquid oxykleen and highergin in the main ingins and them solid busters are actually called motors (no moving parts).

I lerned all this from Craigslist !
:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Too funny

As long as this thread is this far off track.....

I always want to interrupt a motor/engine thread and ask this question, but I never do...
I may as well ask you to consider why people are compelled to give this device with a motor or engine a female gender and refer to the machine as "she". "She runs good then She just up and quits" or "She's blowin blue smoke and then She start's a knockin"
Why is this now a "She" and not an "It" or a "He"?
For me it is an it.

I'll have some fun with ya here.....so dont take it the wrong way, there are differing opinions and IMO, call it watever you want. I certainly aint gonna think you are any less creditable either way......so here goes'

So, if a motor gets it power from an "engine",

What about a hydraulic "motor" if the pump is driven by an electric motor? Would that make it an electric engine?

Or what about air motors?

Or what about all of this solar power. If I run an electric motor off a solar panel, where is the "engine" giving it its power?

I still like the simple definition that a "motor" is a device used to transform energy into motion:thumbsup: And an "engine" is a TYPE of motor. Just like a Taurus is a Ford. So is it improper to call you Taurus just a "ford"?
No. No engines in your example except the one at the begining of the power conversion. That would probably be at the power company.

The Sun is the [fusion] engine providing energy in the form of light to drive the Earth as a motor - photocells included. That light via life processes has caused fuel to be available to power more engines. These convert that fuel to energy by breaking down the fuel in some manner. The conversion of a fuel to energy is paramount in the distinction between engine and motor.
Motors feed on energy to do work. Engines harvest energy from matter to do the work necessary to put it in a form accessible to a motor. The output component of a steam engine is very like an air motor, but the composite assembly is an engine.

Thank You for explaining that so elegantly.I hope that explanation puts the issue to rest.Gentlemen, Start Your Engines and get some work done!

.Gentlemen, Start Your Engines John

I'll give you that one. Becasue "gentlemen, start your motors" just dont sound right.

I guess thats another way to look at it.

Still just seems odd that whoever invented it called it a "motorcycle"
And we have "motorists" insurance

He, I wonder what will happen if someone gets pulled over for an OMVI and you tell the officer "thats impossible, theres no motor in my vehichle"

Aside from the Motor/Engine debate, why do some people call anything with tracks a Bulldozer? If it has a blade, it's a dozer. If it has a bucket, it's a track loader. Or how about those of you that insert a clip into a handgun instead of a magazine? Come on people, does it really matter what we say at the end of the day? Quit splitting hairs and being so **** about stuff that really doesn't matter.

Its the motion thing that blends them unfortunately. Both can impart motion. The engine does it directly - motoring the car. It is still a mistake to call it a motor in that respect. A motors energy comes from an engine thereby giving an indirect link to motion. ... An engine can act to motor [a system] , but isnt one. A motor cannot act as or be an engine.

:) No way those guys have any sense of humor. They just want to exert control. - And the vehicle is given motion by an engine. ... Motored by it. So it still fits; and often rolls better off the tongue:thumbsup:. The only thing that doesnt fit is calling an engine a motor. There is a reason for two words. The motor/motored is subordinate.

A motor is a device which converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. What you probably have is an internal combustion engine. The term "motor" is used mistakenly by schoolboys,non-engineers,and race announcers. That particular usage annoys the purist in me.

His opinion however is factual. Tracing back in the supply train of any type of motor you will always come to an engine. Often that engine is started by a motor using electric power from a battery. Is that battery an engine. :confused3:
