1/8" is a hair anemic.. it really should arc about the same as the coil does.

what points gap are you running?

.025. would that be from the ground electrode on plug to chassis ground for arc distance.

points gap AND plug gap are both .025, i was asking about your points gap.

point gap is set at .025". I have it set where the feeler gauge is just touching the points.

hmm.. I'd expect more than 1/8" jump... because under cyl compression.. that drops...

That's still one to think about.

Now.. if running rough, lets see if one cyl is contribuiting mor eor less than the others.

with it running, use a well insulated glove and pliers to pop each plug wire off the plug or out of the cap in order. ideally, they all make the same difference to engine rpm. if you find one that barely effects it.. that cyl is not firing.

If I can get it running well enough or long enough to try that and hear if engine rpm changes. I know I checked all 4 plug wires individually and they all had the same amount of spark, on that side of it. If I have spark at all 4 plugs and a cylinder isn't firing, then what?

If all 4 spark, but one not firing, double check plug, then comp check cyl.

You say you may or may not be able to keep it running?

Does it stall? If stalks, will it restart immediately or no?

Does a little choke help it any.

Sorry for all the questions, bit it sounds lil you are not familiar with internal combustion engines. Without a little background, it will be lots of q & a to help me narrow down a problem that might be otherwise immediately noticeable in person.

It does stall. It will start right away, but it will crank and crank and then start. Chocking doesn't help out. Before this happened it would start right away. No choke. push button and away she went. The engine was rebuilt this spring. There is really only 2 hours on the new engine. I didn't rebuild it. But I don't know how well he did the rebuild.

That's darn odd. A stall that immediatly restarts can sometiems be a broken electrical connection.. one that stalls and then takes a bit to start is usually a fuel flow issue.

Try this.. hot wire the coil.. jumper right from battery to coil primary.. see if it makes any difference with running or stall.

if no, and she still stalls, then lets move on to checking fuel flow thru carb bowl drain.

I did rewire the whole thing. 12 volt 3 wire alternator. The wiring was really bad. I put a new coil on. 12 volt internal resistor. The old one didn't have the internal resistor. I looked for a external resistor but did not find it. The other coil had ohmed out at 1.7 ohms. The new one ohms out at 3.7 ohms. I will still try jumping right off the battery.

What will that tell jumping off the battery?
