NASCAR Race to the Chase

I saw Tony Schumacher at the World Series of Drag Racing the week after his 337.58 (4.446 ET) qualifying run in Brainerd, MN. Because of the NHRA rule change, he ran his backup car at Cordova and could only produce a disappointing 264 best run, almost 15 mph slower than the top Nitro Funny Car.

Cordova runs bracket racing, sure would be fun to put Force's team up against Sarge.

I see that DEI has reunited Eury Jr. and Dale Jr. for the last 10 races of the season. Maybe he can finally get his season turned around and be ready to go beat them next year - hopefully. I also see that Loomis is out as Gordon's Crew Chief. He is going to consult for the 48 team and "help" Chad Knaus over there. Looks to me like Chad doesn't need any help. He and Johnson made the chase (boo) and Gordon didn't make the chase (yeah).

Awe, thier aint been REAL "stock cars" since the demise of the Charger Daytona's, Superbirds, Talledega's, and Cyclones. They were real stock cars, with real frames, and could still pass any car on the circuit today.

The GM guys whined so much that they took dual quads away from the Hemi. Then they restricted it and restricted it. The Ford guys diced it up with them though.

I'm surprised the Ford guys are so successful; the GM guys have not cried enough to get big restrictions put on Fords so they can be more competitive; remember when the '84 Thunderbirds came out and had an aero advantage? Cry whine boo hoo GM... Suddenly there were restrictions on the Fords...

Funny thing about Stock Cars, there has not been a carbuerated engine in years either...

Still fun though. And, there's lots happening at local tracks for excitment, dirt or paved oval. For some great fun, these guys are a blast Fast Fridays

I like reading all the Jeff Gordon haters. You know he is good when you hear all the cry babies whining about him. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Nascar had to change the points system to keep him from breaking #3's record of championships. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm thinking when Dodge came in, Nascar allowed them to use an aftermarket engine block while Ford and Chevy could not. I guess trying to help the Mopar boys to "keep up". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Chevrolet also had a new head design that they were not allowed to use. Nascar had to put the brakes on that!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I don't give a hoot who wins,,,, as long as it is GM!!!

What are they using for motors? My understanding is Dodge uses a LA series 360 derivitive. Is GM still using the 350/small block base, and Ford the Cleveland? They certianly do not make those motors any more for standard production in the US.

I like Dodge, 'cause I always have. I like the Fords too, because they did make a comeback. Things were pretty meager for both from what, about '73 through at least '83. In '84 Ford came in with the then new Thunderbird, and Dodge just recently now put cars on the track.

I do not favor the GM's, becuase as I mentioned, they whined. Dodge , and Ford to an extent, dominated the late 60's in to the early 70's. Those Daytonas and Superbirds were a groundbreaking answer to the Torino/Talledegas(which were pretty incredible in thier own right). GM couldn't keep up with either.

GM didn't seem to mind dominating after that, and I don't remember hearing the outcries from Ford like GM did. I sure remember GM crying when those new Thunderbirds came out in '84 though.

It's a shame Dodge wastes that new wing and graphic and calls the Ram a Daytona. Would have been nice if they would have introduced something as groundbreaking as the original Daytona. 'Course, GM woulda whined /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A good friend of mine and nascar fan was the one telling me about the motor stories. I know he did, (don't know if he still does) follows it religiously. He always recieved those magazines in the mail.

Robert, I think they all whine at one time or another. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A couple of years ago I delivered 4 engine blocks (Rodec, or ever how it is spelled) to John Force when they were here for the Spring Nationals. I didn't see him, but the guy that picked them up told me to come back to the pits on the weekend and he would take me and my guests all through their trailers!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif You talk about nice and clean,, WOW!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Whata nice set-up.

One thing for sure, you do not want to be in the pits when they are tuning, unless you have a gasmask!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

well RedDog, you've got pretty good odds since 70% of the feild are GM's.

Havent you heard old Jeffy whining already about not making the chase? Heck, he's already dumped his crew chief... Didnt take long.

Actually as far as the whining goes, they havent been near as bad as in the past. Up untill a couple of years ago, if a Ford one, you would see a spoiler rule change or something the following Monday morning. It has gotten a little more consistant, the changes seem to happen durring the off season now.

So dont worry, Ford gets a new car next year and the Roush team is being shook up. So GM might have a chance /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. As long as it aint Hendrick, I can deal with it. 3 Roush wins in a row would be enough for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here, I'm going to upset some; I have to agree with the ladies in the offices I visit on Jeff Gordon. If he is so bad, and has so little talent; but has won 4 championships, what does that say about the other drivers?! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Also, I don't know, but a very nice looking office gal told me yesterday that Jr. dumped his crew chief as well. Is he a whiner too?!

From my short time observing this sport, it takes two big key ingredients to win; money and talent. If you have money, but no talent, you get Kyle Petty. If you have talent, but no money, you get Arca series.

Besides, if ole Jeffy is so bad, what does it say about your favorite driver if terrible ole Jeffy beats him?! Sorry, I'm not a big Gordon fan, but I don't get the animosity against him. Since I've raced for several years, I'd more likely understand animosity towards Dale E. Sr. It takes no talent at all to run over the guy in front of you based on my experience. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Even though it was a different sport (motocross), I've been DQ'd and learned that running over someone who ticks you off generally isn't tolerated in most motor sports, let alone condoned. I'm a big fan of Dale E Jr. I think he has all the talent, but doesn't take the cheap shots. He is undoubtedly a class act.

Someone mentioned that they should let them fight in the pits after the races. Fine, but who would you put in Harvick's car?! He and Kurt Busch would both be on the IR list for the majority of most seasons! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Dont get me wrong, Gordon is a good driver... Cant believe I said that /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.. The reason that most people including myself dont like him is the fact that he is the typical "California Pretty Boy" that has had things hande to him all his life and though he could drive, I would doubt he really knows the difference between a carburator and a main bearring. I think Jimmie Johnson fits in there too. They can drive, but the money gets them where they are over alot of other guys that may be just as talented.

Jr, on the other hand is talented as well. His dads reputation got him where he is though. Just like his dad, when things dont go his way, he gets mad and takes it out on someone. Not a good sport, but a good driver with a legacy. His dad was an A## hole, plain and simple, even his biggest fans can admit that. Thats what made him so popular, he was a normal "trailer trash redneck" that made something of himself and could just drive the wheels off the car.

Sorry, I pissed someone off I'm sure, but before you jump all over me, think about it.

Harvick, is a whiney little brat, that is driving Earnhardts car because he was hand picked to do so for whatever reason. He is nowhere near as talented as some of the others, though his attitude and aggressiveness allow him to win from time to time(they have money too). Its funny, he's the first one to point a finger at another driver, he'll be the first one to go off ranting an raving when he's involved in an incident, his fault or not.. Most other driver want to see what happened on tape before running thier mouth, not him.

Bush, well, hes another kid that had some opportunities. He's not a pretty boy, hes a geek that got his big chance to move from Playstation to the big time. His brother is the same. What got him was his mouth. He and his brother are extreemely talented drivers and are both on teams with ALOT of money and resources. Kurt, has the "left coast" atttude and it doesent agree with most of the NASCAR crowd. His driving isnt any different that Earnhardt Sr. or Richard Petty, he just doesnt have the good ol boy way of expressing himself. Kind of like a suburban white boy walking into an "ethnic" bar in downtown Detroit trying to fit in.. Like a turd in a punch bowl... Kurt was warned and had to learn through hard knocks, Kyle learned from Kurts mistakes, and has kept his mouth shut.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Funny, no one has mentioned the worst driver on the circuit.. Robby Gordon has caused more accdidents in the past few years than any other driver that I can remember, has a bad attitude and for some reason hase not been laid out yet.. I believe its comming though. Just let him get racy with a chace driver.

Jeff Gordon has 4 championships. (And probably no more to come) He won 3 with Ray Evringham as crew chief. #4 was the season after Ray left, but most of the operation was still run as if he was still there. Since then, success has been limited.

WITHOUT EVRINGHAM, GORDON IS AVERAGE.

The slamming he's getting (actually the slamming HIS FANS are getting) now is all to do with the "high and mighty" attitude they threw out while Gordon was having his little run.

And the idea of NASCAR changing the rules to keep Gordon from catching Dale Sr.'s number of championships is about the most laughable thing I've ever heard!

One, if Gordon was to somehow EQUAL his accomplishments of the first 13 years of his Cup carreer, he COULD catch Earnhardt. But what is the likelyhood of that happening? VERY unlikely.

And NASCAR has done everything in their power to HELP Gordon 's carreer, not hinder it. He's been NASCAR's "Golden Boy" for the last 13 years.

I should have known that a typical "Jeffy-Boy" fan would accuse NASCAR or someone of commiting some sort of crime when the Hendrick Motorsports team became second fiddle to Rousch Motorsports.
