You might scan the posts under the "Water" forum of Countrybynet. Brands? I couldn't tell you what brand I have of tank or pump. I would talk to neighbors and then get a couple of drillers out to quote. You'll learn a lot this way.

I have a pressure tank with outlet split. One branch goes to a large tank I acquired from my old well. This branch is dedicated to outside watering. The second branch goes to my water softener after which I have installed a small pressure tank to help maintain pressure in my house. I have check valves installed to keep one branch from contaminating the other.

My drilled well goes down about 115'. I have a submersible Myers pump with 5 year warranty. It was installed in late 1980s....haven't had one problem with it. Water is pumped into a 30 gal. retaining tank with pressure valve set I believe at around 25-30 pounds. You must have a retaining tank. Otherwise every time you turn the water on in the sink or elsewhere, you'll be triggering that pump and it won't be long before the pump burns out. If you haven't done this type of work before, I'd suggest contracting with a good plumber who has. It's a bit more complicated than simply soldering a pipe fitting or two that most homeowners can get the hang of.

I guess it depends on your area, that goes for price too. I had a 300 foot well put in 3 years ago. Price was around $4000. Soil is pretty easy drilling here. All quotes included hooking up electricity (which I supplied from box) and pressure tank, and plumbing up to my pipe which was there waiting for them. I did have another quote for around $5000.

I had a 450' well done a couple years ago. Price with the holding tank installed, 5 hp pump, and one hydrant was $9500. Depending on the driller they will do the whole deal or let you do the holding tank etc. with someone else. You also have to run water lines to and from your house.

It was a $100 to put in the hydrant and cost of the hydrant and $2/ft. to run the water line.

Whoa, mine ran 320 feet with the pump set at 300. Mostly rock, only took 25' of casing. Total price was just a shade over $2500. The driller don't do pumps.

I think it all depends on the driller. The welldrillers I have dealt all pretty much do it all from the well to hooking up the main water line. They put in the pumps, pressure tanks, run the lines, etc. Pretty much turn-key.
