Ok everyone, just to clear the air, I am neither Po'd, nor not willing to listen to logic, or have not shopped around. As I stated in my original post, I only have 3 acres of land to MOW and a driveway to get snow out of. I just didn't know much at all about deisels. I knew that I needed something larger than I had though. This thread has gone off on several other tangents amongst advisors, and has become more confusing than helpful. Sorry, just trying to be honest about it. I have not made a purchase yet, and am still shopping around, but so far the Kubota dealer has given the best price BY FAR. It seems as though the simplicity is more of a glorified garden tractor, and the JD dealer is WAY higher than the Kubota, however I have not priced one of the new JD 1023's only the x748 series. To those of you who tried to answer my concerns thank you very much.

For what you want to do the BX series will be perfect. You can option out the attachments over time, as needs arise and finances allow. I have almost 3 years and just under 200 hrs on my BX1860, without any problems whatsoever other than an "R" clip falling out (link).

I do not have a tractor-mounted snowblower as I have a previously purchased heavy duty walk-behind type -- and it goes down the narrower walks to the house better than the tractor could anyway.

I like the generator! Is that a 10000 watt? My backup genny is 10kw but it is a portable gasoline. Philip.

Yes, it is a 10KW unit. Now then, my BX1860 doesn't have quite enough power at the PTO to swing that the generator at full output -- but the primary reason I bought the PTO driven head was to run my well pump during power outages, and it does that just fine. The business end of the well is down 220 feet and it is of course a 240Vac submersible pump unit.

While my little Honda EU2000i quietly and efficiently powers the aspects of the house that I really need 24x7 (e.g. the gas furnace blower, the refrigerator, and various lights), it provides neither enough output current nor the correct voltage for the well pump. So you could say that I have a "paired" generator setup -- I use the little Honda for 90% of my power needs, and the PTO genset for anything to do with water.

Both generators feed the house transfer switch through the same input connector -- it is just a matter of changing cables to swap generator sources. Of course, in addition to 240Vac the PTO generator provides split-phase 120Vac as well, so all of the same household loads can be powered by the higher capacity PTO generator -- at the expense of noise, and tying up the tractor, etc.

Well just as I said, I was shopping around. JD dealer just called and quoted me the same $15,000 for a JD 1023E with 60" 7 iron MMM, auto pto coupler, and 47" quick hitch 2 stage snow blower with hydro chute rotator. Decisions, decisions.

Is that one of their fancy drive over to connect mower decks? Sure looks nice, but I do not know the details, good or bad. I am sure you will find out more about it on the other page. Make sure you drive both. Philip.

Have you had the chance to sit on it yet? If not try it out. This tractor should last you a lifetime so you want it to feel comfortable to you. I would guess that both tractors would be a pretty close match to each other.

Sometimes people here let their passions get a little out of control.

Hello all, 1st time user and totally new to this. I have 3 acres with a 24'x100' concrete driveway. I am currently using a white gt2550 25hp gas with a 54" deck to cut the grass and have an ahrens 11hp walk behind snowthrower. I am considering a kubota bx1860 diesel with blower attachment. I know very little about diesels. I'm sure that the kubota will more than handle what I need it for, but am I gaining or losing going with the 18hp diesel vs the 25hp gas? I also looked at the simplicity legacy xl, and jd x700 series. I don't know if I'll ever need the 3 point hitch or a fel but at least I'll be able to. I'm also considering the bx2360 with a 60" deck. Does the addtional cost out weigh the larger deck and hp? Like I stated earlier I will primarily be using it to cut grass, and snowblowing.

Well, I do apologize for my part in your confusion, sometimes it's good to get lots of different ideas, sometimes it just turns into people yelling their opinions.

Since you've said that you're not going to be buying a FEL and you don't need a 3pt hitch, here's my advice for what it's worth.

A zero turn mover will out mow any tractor with MMM (way more fun too!). I use a Ferris IS3000 and I really like it, but there are plenty others including Kubota and JD. An almost new commercial model will last you your life time and only set you back $4 - $8K, depending on what you get. It used to take me 3 hours to cut 3 acres, now it's just over an hour, unless I rush.

You've got a powerful enough garden tractor, simply add a front blower, weights and chains to it. My dad has this set up on his JD garden tractor and it works very well. My neighbor uses this set up on his Cub Cadet garden tractor an does a driveway that's about 400' long. Even with the chains and the wheel weights, my dad does no damage to his paved driveway. It may not be 4 wheel drive, but it's got all the traction it needs. If you buy new, this set up will only be about $1500, I see plenty of options on kijiji all the time for a couple hundred.

It sounds like cutting the lawn is the biggest single use you have for a tractor. This gives you the best possible way to cut the lawn as well as a back up and second machine for somebody to help you. You'll also have a good set up for snow removal, not as good as a BX for sure, but pretty good. The only downside is you'd have 2 machines to store and maintain. Since you don't seem to really need a tractor with FEL, rent a larger tractor (B26 are often rented around me) on the occasion you have the need.
