Really....your telling a Machinist aerospace technician that has built 100,000 trucks with robotic cnc programing and electric background that I cant understand simple basic design of a ballcock in a water tank. OMG. your Hopeless...Hey im 58 with 4 years of college and 40 years in industrial settings. Ive designed electrical systems that make your head spin.
The basic hope of the post was to see how other people would design this, and see if they have insight into new products and math tables that would help.

Jeeze, with all that knowledge, why would you even bother asking a bunch of dumb hicks like us?:D

My advice, talk to your pump guy. The idea of using this as a pressure tank without a continuous supply of air is silly. Old non-bladder pressure tanks were hooked to a compressor. Use it as storage and add a booster pump to serve the house and property. Again, talk to your pump guy, I'm sure you're not the only one in E. WA with this problem. Many wells in W. Wa have low flow problems and the answer is always storage, storage, storage usually with level control and a booster pump.

Something to think about - all well water has a certain amount of bacteria. It's a small amount that is not harmful to us. However, storing your water in this tank over a period of time without refrigeration will allow that bacteria to multiply. You may need to treat this water with chlorine or something else if it is to be used for human consumption.

I would suggest using it for your livestock, only, and using only fresh water from the well for the household.

Do you have more information on the well? Total depth, static level, pump rated gpm (maybe I missed this in the original post). Many households with animals do fine on low gpm wells. It's all about the reservoir of the well and the setup of the water system.

One more suggestion - I'm sure you have done and built and designed many cool things in your life and career. Some of the guys here have done so, as well. Many of them have experience with water systems. I have found this forum to be full of the MOST helpful people anywhere on the interwebs. Sometimes it's hard not to feel insulted when someone criticizes your plans or ideas. Please know that, typically, these guys are not 'trolling' you or trying to be rude. One or more of them may save you time, money or frustration. They have done so for me on more than one occasion.

Thank You for your even tone.....!!! LOL...yes this system is by Geiger air base. when the government started flushing their system due to fire suppression chemicals in the airway heights public drinking water system. They caused a huge drop in our well. we went dry for a period. causing us to design this large system.
I appreciate the joyful tone....!

Why did you even start this 1lb problem thread if you already know it all? The fact you act like an engineer confuses me to why you would ask for others input unless you just wanted to talk down to us.

Bottom line you should have a holding tank for water. Your house can pull from the tank when it has demand. The tank fills at a 2gpm rate till it's full. Why you're wanting to pressurize a 3000 gallon water tank has over complication all over it. You clearly know it all, good luck in your project. Adding elevation will not do much do to the minor gain unless you're putting it way up in the air.

If you were closer and nice, I'd give you a cradle for the water tank to get it off the ground and secured.

bspeedy: the well stats are 168 feet deep well the water was tested: its all fine...the well is uphill from the pasture and the well has a sealed steel 6 inch casing stopping at 60ft with a perf pipe liner to 168.
I have found farmers are far smarter than the entire lot of humans: they drive a 1968 ford truck have 2 buks in their wallet and its 50 miles to a hardware store.
they actually use their minds: because they have 50 head of live animals to feed and water daily. they actually THINK before they drive 50 miles to the store.
they don't pee on flat rocks.

well noted Rusty......the idea of the post was to find math table for flows..and or a new device that addresses this specific issue.
farmers do know a lot and i appreciate all input....that what this forum was designed to do is to evolve ideas peacefully.
Ill note im the dumbass for dissing anyone with good ideas.

we do have cradles..for the tank.
but we dont have much of a hill to set this on, we wanted a steel tank because of bullets from hunters guns and rocks from mowers.
again I appreciate all input.

I for one feel I am wasting my time here. Best of luck.

By the way, to get 14.7 psi of pressure from an elevated tank it needs to be 32 feet in the air. Just high school physics not machinist stuff.

I better understand your issue. Assuming 38 to 75 psi pump switch, what do you expect to have when your both tanks just fill and your static pressure is 40 psi in both tanks? Your house tank will cycle until your big tank gets above your pump switch minimum pressure. Then the house tank feeds big tank until 39 psi , for example. You will have about 1500 gal at a diminishing pressure all the way down to zero. I see no way the big tank ever gets much high pressure than minimum plus full small tank added to big volume effect.
Am I missing something?

As an aside, sometimes it's polite to answer questions and spend extra time to help all readers grow from their time spent reading this forum.

Did some sphere math.
Assuming 3000 gal tank (55 " radius)
3/4 full at 75 psi 2250 gal
The tank will reach 38.5 psi after 750 gal flow out
Level change from 36 inch down (from top) down to 55 inch ( half full)
