Need advice on replacing a few boards on my trailer , oak or pine

The boards are oak , 5 year old skid steer trailer and already 2 rotten boards. I have older trailers that are way more used with pine deck and zero rot . Would you find oak , 14ft 2x6 , or pine . Lowes does not have oak but either way probably have to find a mill. Why would Centerville Trailers use oak anyway ? Stronger? sure rotted fast

Why not go with ground contact rated pressure treated?

I mix 50/50 motor oil and diesel to treat my deck boards.

i'd go with PT and forget the environment poisoning diesel/hazardous waste oil treatment and instead put asphalt based fence paint on them.

Any treated wood will last forever, oak or rock maple wil only add weight. go with pine

I thought pressure treated would rust the steel. Manufacturer used motor oil to treat them , guess I should have redone them. If pressure treated is ok Lowes has that in my lenght

plenty of things better and more legal than use dmotor oil to treat wood.

i have a flatbed i bought in 2000 it had untreated (new) lumbe ron it when i got it. didn't make it to the 2nd year before boards rotted on it. I repalced with PT pine. painted them with a-f-paint.. both sides.. liberally. then installed them.

that wood is STILL on there. about 5ys ago I put an overlay of 3/4 marine plywood on it as I was hauling a trike a few times a month, and the trike had narrow , tall rears,a nd a single front.. and depending on how i loaded.. it always put alotta weight on not enough boards.. so the 3/4 plywood really spread it out good.

agian. that same wood is showing no signs of giving up soon.

Pretty sure OAK is used for the strength. Next time I'm in there I will ask them, Centreville manufacturing is 4 miles down the road from me.
