Utility poles... I take it from your question though that that is what you did and what we are seeing is not brush, but the pile? In that case, nevermind :D

Yeah...that is my temporary brush pile. It was a convenient spot to smash all of the brush quickly to keep the job rolling with only 2 people. It let us get 90% of the actual cutting work done rather then spend most of the time shuttling the brush.

avc, how often do the power lines get cleared? It looks like the light company should have that mowed ten or twelve feet past the poles. If they would clear along the lines, that would get part of it done for you.
Here in Florida, they do it every two years. They figure that is cheaper than sending a repair truck out in the middle of the night when a limb falls on the line and knocks out power.

Ha!

They hadn't cleared since the poles went in until last year! The poles went in back in 1980!

They cleared last year only because the govt gave them a pile of money for "line maintenance" after the ice storm of 2011 and Sandy of 2012.

Their idea of "clear" was to come in and lop off branches that were in CONTACT with the power lines. You should see the communication lines. They are all tangled in brush and trees. It's pretty much a giant mess.

The poles are owned and maintained by the utility since they service ~4 houses. I'll stick to worrying about the driveway and leave the lines to the utility companies.

I would suggest something like this. Will cut about 15 foot high and about 6 foot from the side of road. I hope to get some action pictures or video in next few weeks.

I do like the woodsy look also, but when it rains (or worse...SNOWS) I can't get up/down the drive without scratching my vehicles. That pisses me off.

I don't have front hydraulics at the moment. So that makes the front sickle option quite pricey.

I know what your saying I don't have forward remotes either, I ran two hoses from my back hoe thumb and used that valve for the hydraulics. this is temporary until I put the remotes on there like it should be.

I'm on the verge of going hydraulic nuts soon. I think I'm going to suck it up and just go crazy at surplus center and throw a 3rd function, rear remotes and maybe even a thumb setup on the machine. I know I WANT to at least :)
